Do you prefer to buy or rent a place to spend your vacation?

My husband and I talked about summer cottages tonight. My husband would like to buy our own summer cottage, and he would like to visit the same area every year. I prefer to rent a different cottage every year or stay at a hostel/hotel, because that way I get the chance to visit many different areas. I love exploring a new place, and I have never been the type of person who enjoys to visit the same place every year. We couldn't afford to buy our own place even if we wanted to, and we are just discussing the topic. What about you? If money wasn't a problem, would you prefer to buy your own summer cottage or would you prefer to rent a new place every year?

For vacation, I want to rent since I'm not going to live there.

I also prefer to rent. I like to visit different places, so renting is the best option for me.

I also prefer to rent. I couldn't afford to buy my own place, but even if I could afford it, I am not sure I would do it. I think it is nice to visit different places.

If I have the money I would buy that summer cottage--you see even though I'm not using it I can still rent it out to others when I'm not using it and i could still use the money for spending my vacation somewhere else--and the best part it--I always have a summer cottage that I could be proud of and come home to every now and then when i gert a little weary of life---trust me I'm a property consultant hehe

Buying the summer cottage and renting it out could be a good solution, because that way I would still be able to go on vacation somewhere else But I would be a little worried about was the condition of the house when I get it back, because my parents rented out their summer cottage when I was a child, and the people who rented the place damaged a lot things.

I think, both will do good. Buying and renting. The best thing about buying your vacation cottages/house is that, when you want to go for a vacation an you don't have much money to spend, you can always go to your vacation house, it's free. But, if you have enough budget, why not rent somewhere else. Even if you have your own vacation house, you can always rent if you wanna visit a new place. Then you can always go back to your vacation house if your budget is tight.

If money is not a problem then i prefer to buy a place for a vacation. It's not practical to rent cuz you'll be paying just for the stay wherein if you buy a place then you can visit there as many times as you like.

That is true, that is one of the advantages of having your own place. If you have your own place your can use it as much as you want, and if you rent a place you can only use it once. But I still prefer to rent a place, because there are so many places that I would like to visit, and the thought of exploring a new place every time really appeals to me.

Hi, Porcospino. If I had the money, I would buy an cottage. That way when I need to relax or have an vacation, I can. I would be able to have a place that is just what I need. It is fit to my standards and it is easily accessible to my needs. I don't have to worry about other people living in it. It will be occupied by me and my family only. If I did not have the money to buy, I would rent one as I would go along.

Hi Porcospino, I don't have the money yet to buy a place for our vacation. how i wish ican afford it. so, to be safe and practical, i will just rent for a place where we can stay for our vacation. but if given the chance i want to have a rest house where i can have it as a business in the future.

i prefer buying a house or apartment where i and my family go on holiday every year so we can enjoy our vacation i do not say staying at a hotel is not enjoying but ii feel it is not very nice , that is in the case i have money :) cos when you own this place you are free to use and we can feel it is our house , i do not like to stay at hotel whenever i go on holiday .
