What do you want to be?

When I was just a kid, I always wanted to be a scientist. I didn't know then that there are lots of kind of scientists. I just want to be a scientist. Period. Now, at my thirties, I am not a scientist. I realized when I was growing up that I cannot be one, anyways. I am in a third world country. Scientists here are just scientist in "theory". They are not a "creative" scientist. I am not saying that I don't like Filipino scientist. Since i am a Filipino, I should promote Filipino ingenuity. I am proud of our scientists here. Anyways, my question is, when you were just a kid, what do you want to be? Did your dreams came true?

I don't think I even know then what I really wanted to become. But now I do. I'm planning to go to law school this coming school year. I hope I survive it there. More than that, I hope the experience will change me to become a better individual in all aspects possible. I'd say, I'm generally happy of what I am now and what I've become so far. And I hope to grow (spiritually and mentally) even more.

Law course is very expensive and it will take you more than four years to finish. Anyways, if that's what you want then I guess the best thing is to wish you good luck!

hi ethan, when i was a kid my ambition is to become a doctor or even a nurse. until i reach highschool, i still want to be in the field of medicine but i was not lucky enough to be. we were on financial crisis then. i became a working student and the courses that offer scholarship program then in colegio de sta. isabel were commerce, education and social work. so i took social work. but thanks god for the wisdom to choose the right profession for me. i am so successful with my career and was able to go to places that even in my dreams i never thought of visiting them.

But you are doing well now, I mean financially, because of your current work and career. Social work are very tiring and I think you need to have patience to those people you encounter every working day.

First I wanted to be a fireman, I wanted to be a hero and save the day and risk my life...and until I was 13 it stayed they same then I wanted to be a computer programmer/engineer in the armed forces. Sadly that all got thrown away when I was diagnosed with epileptic seizures when I was 15.

Very original fronvisions101! You want to be an X-Men. The thins is, your body needs to be soaked in a solution and fused your bones with adamantium, which I don't know if its a real element, I guess its just a coined word for that comic book.

one of the things that i can't seem to get rid of is my habit of going with the flow. as a kid with such idea, the notion that i can be anyone successful is stuck in my head, thus making it a bit simpler for me as an adult. i have a somehow challenging job, i have lot of friends to back me up, my family to be my shelter, and a life that may not always be complete, but fun to live in. :)

When I was kid I wanted to be a mathematician for the subject seemed so easy. Though I still like the subject, my goals became more career-oriented and now am in quite a different field. The only link remained is that my base was created by my favorite subject, maths

When I was a little child, there were always many ambitious dreams which flashed into my mind. I wanted to be an elegant doctor for a kind-hearted, omnipotent and pretty doctor in a certain movie; I wanted to be a teacher when I started to go to school, because I thought a teacher was so powerful that could order all of us studends to do this or that; and many other careers I wanted to be. However, I am neither a doctor nor a teacher now. I just try my best to hold now and here and lead myself to a satisfying life. To be healthy, to be brave and to be happy. Happy mylotting!

Welcome to mylot Candymin. :) I think as a kid, there are so many people that influences us to make those dreams which makes us aim to be something we wanted to be in the future. Now as we look back, we can always smile and thought how all those people greatly influence us!

I think dreams are truly for kids. When one gets older, dreams subside and getting happy is what everybody wants. I also think that way, dude. Happiness is one intangible thing that every one wants but money can never, ever buy.

ethanonthemoon good morning there! You know I felt also what you have feel now. At my young age my plan is to become an engineer. Wish I could know how to make a blue print and plan for the bulding. I'd like to build bridges and others. But when I start college I noticed that I'm not good in drawing and mathematics so my ambition was changed into other one. But the second option was grabbed now. The factor also that could lead me into back out of it its because I belong from the poverty line and I finished my schooling through my blood and sweats. Work in a day and school to evening. Even though this is only what I've got still so very happy that I am successful of the second choice that I want to be in my life.

What is your second option? I am an engineer but not a civil engineer, which you like. I am an Electronics and Communications Engineer. Though I don't work to an electronic or in a telecommunication firm. Or at least my work is not related to engineering, though I am in a broadcast company. Anyways, good luck to your second option.

What is your job now? When I was kid, I also wanted to be a scientist. But in high school my science grade was poor, when I was in 3rd grade of senior high school, I wanted to be a teacher or sport journalist. Now I am an English teacher and I have been teaching for almost 7 years! Why sports?Because I like reading sport news, watching Olympics,World Cup, Euro, i like watching football, even though I don`t watch it as often as I used to. Since I am not a sport journalist now, I think actually I have writing talent but never feel confident enough to write it for magazine/media. Now besides teaching, i want to improve my writing skill to be an online writer.

well, there i wanted to be many things from time when i was younger, depending on the situation and influences i had. but the most notable and most serious one - i wanted to be a footballer(soccer player). football has been my biggest passion and most influential activity for the major part of my life so far. i played extensively during my schooldays and was a good player too. in fact, i was one of the best in our school during our time. but i didn't become one, and it was due to several factors combined. maybe due to lack of much support from family, lack of exposure as i was almost entirely in boarding schools and hostels, thus not getting enough opportunity, etc. that was the one big thing i really wanted to become. nowadays, i don't even get the opportunity to play. and i've developed a newfound passion in guitar. i'm just learning to play it on my own. but football will always be my no. 1 passion. not becoming a footballer is one thing i'll regret my whole life.

If you think you are one of the best on that field then why not share your skills to the younger generation. In that sense, you can attain your dreams for somebody else.

I really admire my teachers when I was young. I follow their actions too. I impersonate them, and play as teacher in games with my cousins. Today, I'm not a lecturer but I'm a health care provider. I loved it though.

What "health care" do you provide? Do you care for the "aged" citizens, or the sick ones, or the mentally ill, or perhaps on special children.
