I lost my job about 3 months ago, and I thought to myself that everything was going to be ok because I had some savings and I would receive unemployment and in the worst case scenario I could ask for government assistance until I get back on my feet. After three months, I'm out of money and the bills are piling up. I only receive $139 weekly from unemployment which doesn't even compared to what I earned before to the point that it doesn't even help me to pay my rent. To make matters worst, I looked for government assistance and it turns out that because I don't have a child, I cannot get financial assistant to pay my rent and all community programs that are supposed to be there to aid don't have any funds(or so they say). Apparently, I do no qualify for assistance with my utilities because not only they use my current income to make a decision, but they use my income taxes as well, and apparently I made too much money to qualify. Then I applied for food stamps and I was told that if I wanted to get assistance, I couldn't go to college on a full time basis because otherwise I woulnd't qualify for benefits.Aren't government programs a bit arbitrary? I like to think so, we pay taxes every paycheck so it can be distributed among programs that are suppose to help people thru hard times and apparently I have to be an unwed mother, with no skills, and no college education to qualify for them. With no job offers any time soon, and at the verge of being completely broke I fail to see the silver lining. All I see its how cruel and ironic life could be...you try to succeed and make something out of yourself and one thing goes wrong and then you find yourself in abyss. How can anyone expect you to survive in this mixed up world?

Welcome to MyLot, Sorry to hear about your job loss...the way the economy is...it seems like every week someone we know has lost their jobs. It doesn't seem right that there are no government programs to help you get through this rough time. You mentioned help with utilities and food stamps...sometimes churches will help you with theses...also food banks. I sure hope you get back on your feet soon..good luck to you.

You are not alone friend in voicing your opinion that this world is indeed very ironic and very cruel. Many people suffered with the unfairness of life but even if you complained and shout at the top of the highest mountain everything else will just echoed back at you. Then it will be followed by a question...what will you gonna do about it...float or sink or fight. Whatever your decision is your future depended on it. Many people everyday lost their jobs and many more graduates facing the same jobless problem like yours and job and opportunity is rare to find. But don't despair my friend everything else will turn bright someday...you just have to wait for it and learn to survive each day. Good luck to you.

It is very hard and there are so many more teens getting pregnant and needing to depend on government money. There was actually a thing on MSN news the other day stating that even though people doubted Obama's ideas, our economy is getting back on track! That sounds like good news to me, a little reassuring news for you for the day.

Good to hear that your government is willing to help you out for your assistance, but in our country they just leave you alone and let you to struggle for your survival.

Please seek some philanthropic NGO or charitable agencies and speak. Appeal to Caritas office in your locality. Get some credential recommendation and expose your cause to christian missionaries. The Divine Providence shall truly help you. Don't lose courage. Meet some Church priests - christian or Catholics. I pray for you

I sure do feel for you and the plight you are in. It is sad when you think you are doing okay, and then something happens, and things drastically change. I know how it is to be without, as I have had problems too, and as of last month, things turned around for me. I am on a fixed income, but the thing of it is, I was paying jmore out than what I was making so it became very difficult. Most of the time, I barely had enough to pay my bills, and I would have just a very little left, and I was totally surprised too, as i didn't expect to have anything left. I had both my crdit cards almost maxed out, and was making payments on them, and it became very difficult as I hd to pay on those as well as my mortgage, and the rest of my bills. I finally decided, that I needed to do something to helop my situation, so I applied for a reverse mortgage, and it was the best decision I ever made,as it got me out of debt pretty much, and I was able to pay off the credit cares, get the mortgage paid off, and have lots left where I could put some in savings as well. I have been feeling better these days as now I am finally able to pay my bills without any problems and have plenty left over, so now life is good. I do wish for the the best though, and I hope that things will change for you soon. God bless you, and have a great day.

Yeah, as far as I am concerned, I think I can not agree with you idea more. It is so difficult for us to earn money nowadays, which means that we are so difficult for us to live a comfortable day now. We need to try our best to struggle our feet in the society.

I felt very sad after reading about the distress you are in and my deepest heart-felt feelings are with you.. Well i can say that the govt policies are vague.. With such unemployment ratio i guess govt should allocate funds without much requirements.. Its always essential for any govt to take care of its taxpayers.. Its totally a fault on the part of your govt.. You should approach human rights and let them know about the situation.

Come on, don't be so sad.... perhaps the internet will help you earn more money. I have seen many US people earn money from the internet. it is not difficult, you just need to find the right thing to follow, or get some one kind to help you out. Very sorry to hear your problem...
