Do you skip class?!

How many of you skip class when you know you shouldn't? This, being my last quarter has been a lazy one indeed. Spring quarter for college has haunted me for the past four years. It's just that attendance is not recorded and notes are posted online, which gets me to thinking why even go to class? What are your opinions on the subject matter?

A few years back when I was in college I thought about skipping when it hit me how much I was paying for each class. Zowie! Suddenly that cheapness gene inside of me went berserk and I figured I would get there because I would be paying for it anyway, I may as well get some benefit from it. Also found out about the local note taking services and signed up as a note taker in classes so I would make certain I'd make those. Do you have a cheapness gene?

Lol becoming a note taker was a good move. It's not that I have a cheapness gene, it's just that I have no money to spend. That does make sense that the government and my parents are paying for classes. This is indeed a real eye opener. That a very POSITIVE discussion and I thank you. You might have just inspired me to start attending class more. Thanks valentines!! =)

Ahhh. I never skipped class when I was in college, maybe because we don't have the online thing, and you really need your attendance to pass the class. Hehehe. Anyway, even if attendance is not recorded and the notes are posted online, maybe you can still get a more clear perspective of the topic if you listen to your prof rather than just read the notes. There are some people who is better at listening than reading, and there are some who are the opposite.. When I was in review for the board exam though, I never attended class, because i felt I would be more productive just staying in the house or the library and just learning and reviewing on my own. I guess, it really depends on the person.

Hmmm. I think we learn more from listening. Hehehe. But that is just my opinion. I think there's like a test for that, to know which sense do you use more and with regards to the memory or something like that. hehe.

I actually took a class called "Neurosex Differences," which explained the different components of males to females. I know that girls exceeded guys in every category, except for sight. In other words, girls have better senses than guys in everything except for sight.

Yes, to each their own. You are correct that some people learn visually, while other people are better at listening. I have heard that males get most of their information from their visual sense. I'm not sure where females have their concentration of senses and what they use the most in that regard.

That's cool how you have privileges as being the son of a principal. To top it all off you do not even get so much as a chide for talking to girls. I see nothing wrong with talking to a girls, so I do not feel that you are in the wrong. Good job and keep up the good work.

Wow, you were lucky to have special privileges from your stature as being the son of the principal. Did you like or have fun with a lot girls from your school? It's funny how you go to school to learn about girls instead of learning about academics. =P

when i was in school i used to. i used to skip school every so often. but then i chose to make it to school whenever i could. i mostly thought that if i didnt go to school than i would get a bad grade and that i wouldnt learn what i needed to learn. that was true, so i still do everything i can to learn.

Yes, I learned that studying for something actually does help. I found that if I studied harder I actually do better in the subject or test. I know that sounds obvious but I tested it and it was true. I need to go to class and learn as much as I can. That is easier said than done. I need to stop being lazy and sleeping so much.

I cut classes all the time when I was in high school and college. But the difference between your school and mine is that, your school don't record attendance. Our school records attendance but still, we cut classes. But the consequence here is if there's a new topic or lesson, you'll be left behind. You said that notes are posted online. But what about the other facts that your professor added during the discussion? What about all the information your professor discussed that was not included on the notes?
• United States
14 Apr 10
Yes you right about the drawback of not actually being present in class because even though the notes are posted online there are facts that are indeed added in lecture. My answer to that is to make a friend and make sure to get notes from him/her and do the same for them or buy them some food and or drink. I usually always attend the classes where attendance is required. Have a wonderful day. =)

Well in that case I think we have something in common. I do have a lot of friends and we trade notes. The bad thing about it is when we decide to cut classes at the same time. We'll drink. LOL

i never skipped any classes except for subjects that i'm forced to take and it's useless..the one and only class i've skipped is Islamic Civilization..i'm not a muslim but i'm a Malaysian, a Muslim country but students studying in National Universities are required to take up this subject..well i'm not against Islam or what but..you don't force other ppl into learning religion related subject...some are even forced to take up Arabic classes..i was like wth?
• United States
19 Apr 10
Do you not want to know the origins of your own religion? If you are Muslim are you not also Islamic? I can understand that in grade school there is a certain curriculum that is followed that is set up by the government but I always thought that most or all universities let people take their own subjects. I did not know that even universities have required classes.

Nope I'm not a Muslim...just that I do not like to attend that type of class..but of course, I passed the exam though..hehe

Yes....spring quarter is horrible. It's my first year at college and I didn't know I was going to have so much trouble when the school year is ending. I think it's important to go to class (even though none of your friends go and the weather is beautiful outside) because there might be things on the tests that the professor goes over that's not in the book. That's what I keep telling myself anyways.
• United States
14 Apr 10
Do you dorm? The last quarter is definitely the hardest because that's when everyone gets complacent and people become lazy. The weather becomes erratic, at least in my case it's cold one day and hot the next day, which may confuse a student and affect his/her studying. Actually in all honesty, I just need to find some motivation and not be lazy. I like your motivation of going to class because there might be material from lecture that will be on tests. Good one. =)

i skipped class alot at uni for the same reason as you most of the notes were online and also some of my lectures just read the notes they had so i could of just stayed at home in bed and read them myself. I missed the 9am ones a lot usually because i had late nights but looking back i wish i hadn't

You had late nights partying all the time? Lol. I miss the early classes because I sleep late, not because of partying but just because of bad habits. I have always been more of a night person, rather than a day person. What are you doing now that you're done with college? How has life been for you?

I skipped a lot of my classes when I was in college. I skipped it not because I was out with my friends and doing stupid stuff but I really wanted to take a rest. There are just so many times that I felt like I was really lazy so I always resort to skipping my class and go to my hometown. lol

Sometimes I would oversleep or take a nap and then miss a class. I hate when that happens. Sometimes sleeping takes away so much of my day!! Maybe if we both sleep class won't skip as many things. =)

When I skip quizzes or exams I try and get them excused, so that I have more time to study. It has worked many times but not all the time, depending on how kind the teacher is. I actually just my class that started twenty minutes ago for waking up late. My dream was that I could not figure out how to graduate!! I hope that dream does not become a reality!!

As a student,we ought to have classes for getting knowledges, isn't it?I have also skipped some classes on account of lazy .And I also know that is not right.Though my calculating,i know ,in my college ,i have paid 50 RMB for every class when start a school year ,it means that i have to lose many money if i skip class. In a word ,skip class is not good .And i will try to make it less.

We are wasting money by skipping class. Laziness is terrible and can be avoided if one has motivation. Often times people who are lazy do not have motivation or do not have direction in their life. I'm still looking for my motivation in order to keep me going. What is your motivation?

some times i skip like you ,most i skip are the elective, spring quarter make me sleepy ,in the morning i don't want to get up ,it's cold out side!so i stay in bed ,till i am Hungary, how lazy i am ,i feel sense of shame

It's okay to be lazy but over laziness can make one seem like a sloth. My parents have said that I am the laziest person that they have ever met. Maybe we just need more motivation. On my end I just need to pass my classes and then I'll be able to graduate. Have fun in school while you still can! =)

That's good that you love your classes. Maybe you have some interesting classes or have interesting professors. Keep up the good work! I hope you become an inspiration to many people. =)

Skipping classes is easy at my school, I have started in 6th form and am doing 5 AS levels. I only started skipping the most pointless lessons which I'm not even sure why I'm doing it. Yeah I'm from the UK so I guess you might not know what Im talking about, hehe. At my school they take a register or "roll call" or whatever you guys call it in the morning and just after lunch. If you don't attend the classes that don't have a register then you never get caught. Most teachers don't know if you have lessons or not as each person has different free lessons to most other people and as long as you don't bump into your teacher just before or after the lesson then you can get off scott free. My overall views on the subject matter is that its okay on a rare occasion as that way at least you will get any important information for tests or stuff neeeded for exams. Personally I don't really do much work outside of school and therefore if I skipped classes lots I would be behind so much.

What is 6th form and 5 AS levels? Of course one should go to lecture when it is important do so. What do you mean by free lessons? I had not realized that the schooling system in the U.K. was so different from my own in the U.S. Cheerio mate.

I totally have that late gene. Many people say it's because we are Filipino. For some reason Filipino's seem to usually be late to things, I have no idea why. Congratulations on graduating!! I hope to be following suit soon. I do not like coming late to class also and sometimes would rather skip, which is what I did today for two of my classes.

Well lucky for you that your notes are posted online. When I was in my college, online is not our thing. However I still skip classes, because I would like to go out and watch movies and or maybe meet my boyfriend and roam around.

That's cool. Yeah I guess a lot has changed in a decade. Everything is becoming more computerized and the old school generation, such as some of our parents, who do not know how to use computers are going to fall behind. Hopefully technology does not destroy us, like in those scifi movies. One more quarter left of college, gosh I'm going to miss it. I need to go to class and stop skipping because of laziness!!

Guilty. Lol i used to do it when i was still in highschool well a lil bit in college too when i dont feel like looking at my strict professor. But hey i think once in a while people tend to feel bad or lazy too. At least thats what i feel sometimes ,and then i just try my best to make it up the next day then . Enjoy your day and happy mylotting

We need to step up our game man!! Sometimes the lecture is just so boring that I fall asleep and I wake up when the lecture is done. Then I think to myself what is the point in coming to class/lecture when I'm just going to fall asleep. I know it is a bad rationale but it happens sometimes. Enjoy your mylotting and day as well. =)

Even though it's my senior year of high school and I'm lazy as sin, I still wouldn't dare skip a class. I guess it's just fear of letting my natural laziness creep up on me...

Congratulations on graduating soon! I'm glad you don't let senioritis affect you to a high degree. My senior year was ridiculous, I had to try to get a C. Freshman through Junior year my grades were mostly A's and B's. Good luck to you and have fun in senior ball, assuming that you're going.

it is nearly impossible to skip at my school. We have security gaurds and cameras everywhere...and its not a bad town or anything so its not like we need it all. And there is only one way into and out of the school with a guard always by it. the only time i was able to ditch was wen my friends went to dennys in the morning and came back the same time as rop kids. But im in highschool so its different lol
• United States
12 Apr 10
What is a rop kid? Yeah, it was harder to skip in high school for me but I still did it my senior year. I take it that you're only a Junior then by your age. My high school was very lax and it was not only until my year left that security increased. Well I'm glad you don't skip class because it's bad! Get into college first!! =)
