Sad to say but yes Philippine Sports is in critical condition. Unless the government and its sports officials wake up and do something about it, Philippine Sports will never be as it used to be. Gone are the likes of Lydia de Vega, Elma Muros, Onyok Velasco, Eric Buhain, Cristine Jacob and many other athletes who have given the country pride and glory. In Basketball, we used to be win championships in the Asian Basketball Confederation (ABC) and even the Jones Cup. Now our Southeast Asian neighbors are fast catching on us. Why? Unlike other countries who gives full support to its athletes, our government gives little support to our athletes. Philippine Sport officials are fighting with each other for authority while leaving our athletes staring blankly on their future. We have so many promising and good athletes all over the country waiting to be discovered and trained if only our government will have an effective and productive sports program to follow. There's too much politics even in sports which has greatly affected it and now we can see the result. Philippine Sports is dying and if our government doesn't do something about it we will always see the Philippines at the end of the medal tally with no gold, no silver and no bronze.

Yes it is the problem with philippine sports is that if they are not given enough attention by the government, people tend to focus of few games as well and tend to ignore some good games . For example pinoys are pretty much into basketball almost every male in the country knows how to play this sport, and when it comes to physical sports we concentrate on boxing alone, leaving other sports unchecked.Thats why when theres an upcoming competition an international one pinoys have a limited access if none when it comes to other sporting activities. There are indeed alot of promising athletes in our country but there not taken cared off at all

You're right, there are many other sports were pinoys can excel but are not given much attention. They put too much emphasis on, say basketball, where we stand little chance internationally. The government should realize that there are other sports activities where our athletes can excel and they should create a sports program to develop and train athletes.

Yes your right. I think we should also face the truth that we dont have much budget for just bout anything but mere giving attention to our athletes is needed too. They are the pride and glory of our country, without them we are seen as a bunch of weaklings. And sports such as tennis, badminton, archery, shooting and lots of others as well should be well introduced in the country not just basketball...In the country its as if the only sport for all pinoys is basketball
