All of the posts here to this writing are very well said. We never learned how to choose the right leader. We never learned how to differentiate good and right. We always forget the past. We never learned our lessons. Let me add this: we never learned how to help each other. It's always crab mentality and we have forgotten the "bayanihan" system already. A friend of mine recently commented that he's afraid to vote for this particular presidentiable because he's not strong enough and could be used as a puppet after election. We always base our choice on that so called intellectuals. Who is our current president? Wasn't she an honor student? And the past ones also? Those who were so called intelligent leaders were the ones who corrupted us? And what about us, citizens? We allow them to do such crimes to us. We did not do our part in helping our country. I believe, if we just do away with the "live and let live" and try to help each other like what other Asian countries did, especially, after a war, we'll be able to improve our country. It may not be that fast. It may take time. But at least we'll be able to start a new beginning.

the greatest lesson we never learned or refuse to learn is to differentiate right from good. We Filipinos tend to go for what is good that what is right. Let me define good and right. Good is for the advantage of a select few, right is for the advantage of the everyone or the common good, following the laws of man and God. Let me give an example of this. Election is near and your son/daughter/niece/nephew or somebody else's relative, you cut in line, use "connections" to speed up things. This is good. good for you or that someone who is registering. This is also CORRUPTION. the right thing to do is to line up properly, or register early. Another common example would be jay-walking. You are just thinking about being able to get to your destination fast, not minding if others will follow you (thereby causing increased traffic) or if you'll get into or cause an accident by crossing the street (when there is/are speeding cars). There is a reason why pedestrian overpasses and pedestrian lanes are made. Pedestrian lanes have huge stripes on them to signal far away cars to slow down because people might cross the street. there are a lot of examples of this and THIS is the reason why we are suffering right now. We only think about ourselves which causes some people to follow suit and produce anarchy.
