while buying do you look for additional ( free etc) with your intended purchases

These days whenever we go shopping we see on the package words like "buy one and get one free"' or even "buy 3 and get two free" ( this mainly in garments - shirts) etc, sometimes when buying small daily needs like toothpaste etc you see them clubbing a free toothbrush or with a smaller sized toothpaste and even a toothbrush added, etc. I do look for such sales gimmicks but buy only if they are from known brands, while there are many unknown brands available ( and much much more cheaper or with more gimmicks!!). Like recently when I wanted to buy a Colgate toothpaste they had an offer which combined the largest size tube and in the same package a smaller tube and a toothbrush too( all in Colgate brand) - all at a very economical pricing, similarly you get not only FMCGs but even garments like shirts, Tees , etc. Do you also buy such " Value for money"what I term as 'gimmicks' or not? Or do you go solely by brand consciousness?

I dont buy anything on the internet, unless its something I cant get at the store OR the price is much better than at the store. I check out flyers and since I know the price of everything I use, I know when its good sale or not. I love gimmicks, sometimes they are real ones, sometimes not. Like someone said, sometimes they jack up the price so you end up paying for both, but sometimes not. You need to keep informed so you can make great purchases. I do have brands I like. I too go for Colgate and wouldnt buy another brand of toothpaste because its cheaper. But on other products, brand doesnt really matter and I'll go for the cheaper one.

neither do I buy on the internet - one you do not know whether what you get is what they show you and secondly I am afraid that the privacy may be compromised as it happened to me once with my credit card. and like you I stick to well known brands only for health /food products

Precisely that is what I do - I do not go looking for discounts but when they are available and I know I will be needing those items soon then I would buy them.

No, I don't. I just focus on the items I am buying because very often, these freebies are sometimes useless, they just add to my mountain of garbage at home.

Also when I am shopping i do look for deals like those you mentioned. i like when it says buy one get two free but most of the time from my experience you arent really getting anything free because they raise the price so you are actualy paying for all three of the items. they just make it seem like you are not. this is only the case sometimes though. there have been occasions when i have actually found som legit bargins but this was mostly online.

Hi Vsmith, I am not sure about what you say b'cos I tend to calculate the prices of such deals- teh examples I gave you about the 2tubes+ 1 toothbrush of Cogate - remember; well I compared and found that the price of this special deal works out much cheaper plus the toothbrush price than had I bought these separately. And then last week I managed to get 5 T-shirts for the price of 3 - here again I compared before buying - maybe they are carrying huge stocks otherwise I know what you say is very correct - they normally jack up the prices - like they say nothing comes free!!

yes i do, but before i'll buy i checked and compare the prices if i'm really getting a discount or freebie. there are some gimmicks that are catch only. i usually buy the "but 1 take 1 one" promo, but i check the label and quality of the product first. usual b1t1 promos are food. so, you have to check the expiration date before buying. i also buy only branded promos.

No, but sometimes I checked on the package if it has something extra or free, I buy it. Most of the time I ask for a discount from the selling price.
