Is H1N1 Vaccine necessary?

Influenza A Virus - Influenza A (H1N1) virus is a subtype of influenza A virus and was the most common cause of human influenza (flu) in 2009. Some strains of H1N1 are endemic in humans and cause a small fraction of all influenza-like illness and a small fraction of all seasonal influenza. H1N1 strains caused a few percent of all human flu infections in 2004–2005.[1] Other strains of H1N1 are endemic in pigs (swine influenza) and in birds (avian influenza).

In June 2009, the World Health Organization declared the new strain of swine-origin H1N1 as a pandemic. This strain is often called swine flu by the public media. This novel virus spread worldwide and had caused about 17,000 deaths by the start of 2010.

There seems to be a second wave hit of H1N1 (Influenza A) lately after been silent for a while. Working in a health sector, my department is giving free H1N1 vaccine injection to all of its staffs. Although I am concern about the risk of being infected, I am also afraid of getting the side effects from the vaccine shot. Can anyone give me some advice whether it is necessary to get myself injected or not?

When did the second wave hit and where ? There has been no such news in my country ! It is always better to be on the safer side and take the vaccine. The next outbreak of swine flu may happen anytime and we can't wait till then to protect ourself. You are already late . Better late than never. SAVE YOURSELF , BE HAPPY .

There has been a few cases reported in my place. I took a vaccine shot last year and it caused me to fall sick for 3 days. My arm and muscle felt stiff and weak. I really hate the side effects. I am a healthy person who exercise and eat healthy food regularly. I could say my immune system is pretty good because i seldom get sick. Usually people with health problems such as diabetes, obesity, etc are the higher risk group of getting infected with H1N1.
