Yahoo or Google?

The two most used used search engine in the web are yahoo and google. Aside from their spelling, tsk tsk, what is the difference of the two in terms of services? If you notice that google has a simple and light GUI while yahoo has lots of heavy stuff like flash animations. Is google better than yahoo? or can you give an alternative?
