Is a best friend the same as an associate or acquaintance?

Some people say that the people they work with are just associates, but I am not so sure I mean if you spent the last 30 years working with the same co-workers, I would think that you know pretty much everything about them, probably more than you know about your best friend. What exactly is an acquaintance? someone you just see in passing, or is it just that you do not share intimate details about yourself with them. I am really concerned about this issue. Can you give me some clarification, thanks!

I always think of my co-workers as a friend. However, not all of them become my best friend. Only they who could share and care that i made as best friends. Therefore, we should be able to judge the people that we will make friends and how sincare they are.

i think there is a difference in it. you will have to have a bonding and a closeness before you call someone your friend. an acquaintance is someone you just see everyday but have no usual talks with that person. an associate could be that kind of person too, you talk occasionally but you definitely don't share any more information than the obvious ones.
