Do you have a dog? Do you want to have one? And do you know the rules of selecting a dog? As I know, the bigest mistake people make is selecting a dog without considering its energy level. There are four basic engines: low, media, high and very high. So match yours to the dog's first. Second you have to pick a model. Large or small, short hair or long, new or pre-owned. Then you can go to the pet shop to choose your dog. Anyway, I think you had better test your dog's responsiveness, after you have selected one. For example, introduce the scent of the treats. Then introduce the toys. Determine what interests your dog more. This is very important because knowing whether he/she is toy-driven or treat-driven will make it easier to train it.

In selecting a dog, the lifestyle of the owner will depend on it..if the owner is fond of letting the dog joins a show, then he should pick the best quality and the best among the litter..he should pick a dog that has a very good conformation..he should check for the teeth if it has a scissor bite and not the undershot ones.he should check if the rear legs are that angulated..and of course the topline as well as the bloodline of the particular dog. if the owner just wanna have a pet dog, then he should pick up the ones that are too soft, low nerve threshold and is not wild..if the owner wants to have a guard dog, then he should choose a dogs that has a good nerve threshold and train it to protection training. when choosing a dig, not only will you have to look at his physical appearance..you should also consider his temperament as well as his drive and focus to such certain things..

We should look at breed standards when selecting a dog.Not in looks but in personallity. For example,a golden retreiver is not a watchdog,a german sheperd is a gaurd dog.See the diffrence? If we have a mixed breed,we can try and determain what the personality will be like depending on the breeds its mixed with. When I choose a puppy,I choose the one that seems to like me the most and lets me hold it.I choose the most laid back one because most likely it will be easy to train with a laid back personality.Selecting a dog is a big step because you want to make the right choice, and be happy with you're new puppy.

It depends on the owner's lifestyle. I mean if the owner is laid-back and the dog is energetic and very outgoing, I don't think they would be a good match. An active dog has to have an active owner. Also, the length of hair should also be considered. If the owner isn't tolerant of dog hair all over the house, or he is allergic, then he should pick the ones with short hair. Another thing to be considered is the dog's appetite. A big dog surely has a big appetite and has to be fed more food. So if the owner wouldn't be able to provide huge amounts of food to the dog, then a big dog is not for him. The weather (or at least the air temperature) is also a factor. A dog with thick, long coat will easily feel exhausted.
