and come up with a normal health and safety regulations? Okay, it probably is stupid to even think about the contrast of health and safety regulations in India and UK. Let me introduce myself better. I am Indian, my husband is British. We live in India at present, with trips to England whenever we can (more like whenever we can afford it). I have lived in England for sometime before me and my husband decided to move to India. I have noticed a BIG, well, HUGE difference in our Health and Safety regulation, to be more honest, control of it. I have seen regularly the road repair works being done on Indian Roads. What have been done for safety is nothing. That's right. Zilch, Zero, Nada. May be that is too strong, sometimes they have a few cones on the road - obviously not enough to protect them. One time, I saw one cone being placed right next to the worker who was cleaning the road divider at that time. What will that do?? Would that protect him from a speeding vehicle? I don't think so. And there is no warning whatsoever on the road leading up to that point. The picture here shows some women and men working on Jaipur Road, very busy road next to Jaipur International Airport. This picture is taken from my car while I was stopped by a red light. See what I mean? In contrast to that, I saw a road work being done on A449 in England. Near my husbands's family home, just outside Wolverhampton. At least a mile was covered in traffic cones and warning signs every 20 yards. Was that really necessary? The time it must have taken to place those cones and then remove them again....what a waste of public money which could have been spent on something better. Then there are building sites...don't get me started on that one. And our factories....whew!! That's another topic for another discussion. Please comment: Can we do anything to combine the health and safety regulation and come to a more reasonable and normal regulation? Can we implement them? Cos I love both countries and I sure would love to see improvements in both. Thanks for reading my rambling.

We should be able to health and safety should be a matter of common safety we should be able to decide what precautions are neccessary and which are just a waste of time but being the pessimist i am i doubt we can.

Thank you for your response. I think the main thing is we need to change our attitude. I have tried to give my employees basic safety equipments, but I can never get to wear them. I tried enforcing the rule that if they don't wear, they have to pay a fine. That does not work out either.

That's right. In India, we do not take safety seriously. Lots of manufacturing units don't use safety equipments, even the basic one like mask, loves, etc. The road workers never use any safety precautions. They are lucky if they are provided with a cone. The truth is, if someone makes a fuss about it, then there are always someone willing to work without that. So employers don't have to invest anything on safety. I am not sure about the laws and regulations, but even if there is, there definitely is no one implementing it.

Thank you for your response. Do you think there is anyway that we can take safety precaution seriously in India? I mean not as much as England, may be the bit in between?
