That's because you ask him to stay away from you. I think he misunderstood you so it's best if you'll fix everything up before it's too late. There's also a possibility that he was trying to test if you're going to be bothered with his absence or if you're going to seek for him after you decide to hurt his feelings.

I think you should met him and tell him about what you feel. If you need to apologize, then do it. Describe thing that happen to you and hopefully by doing this he will understand and your relationship will get better. If you feel ashamed to met him, just write a letter and express your express on it. Give it to him through someone or give by yourself when you met him at school
