Anyone ever made their own annointing oil?

I went to a health foods store earlier today and bought some frankincense and some myrrh. I already had some olive oil. I mixed the three together. I had to make sure i did it in the right proportions, or the smell can be overwhelming. Now, all I have to do is consecrate it. I haven't figured out the best way to do that yet. Apparently there are many differing traditions. Anyone have any suggestions? I am Christian protestant. Peace! :) Byron

Hello again Byron! Our church believes in the anointing and laying on of hands by the elders to pray when we are sick. James 5:14&15 Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; We use oil. BUT..(Knew that was coming didn't you?) We do not believe you have to have special oil. There is no power in the oil itself but the power is in God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit and in your faith to ASK for the prayer of the church. The oil we use, yes special oil can be bought for this...but I also know we have used plain vegetable oil!!!! Because by itself the oil does nothing. It is our faith in God!!! Sorry to hear of this news of your friend. I have had friends pass away from cancer. I have one now that has it. May God be with you and your friend at this time and May God give your friend peace and comfort and the strength that he needs as he goes through this. I pray God gives you strength and comfort also as you help your friend. Amen.

Oh Carmelanirel, if you felt led to pray over the oil then certainly pray over the oil. We must do as we feel the Spirit leading us!! I am just saying that the power is not in the oil, but the faith of the one that is doing the anointing and the person being anointed and also putting that faith in God. I know we have anointed a handkerchief of the person being prayed for and we have prayed, I also know that the person was healed. The anointting that we do at church we all lay hands on the person and pray for them. We have even had someone step in for someone that wanted prayer and couldn't be there, like shut in or hospitalized, and we have anointed that "fill in" and prayed for them.

Yes, I agree the power is not in the oil, but in our faith and hope in Him..:)

Since I don't have a home church and barely anyone around me who I trust to consecrate it, I do it myself..It might be wrong, but then again look at how people who lived in the middle of no where years ago. They had church in their homes, so I guess it is the same with me..Though if I think hard enough, I might come up with a leader who I trust to pray over it. Or maybe not even a leader, but another man of god.. This is interesting and I'd like to see what other people have to say about it..

I found a prayer on the internet that i just said over the oil. It asks God to bless it and asks that it consecrate and blesses the user, as well as the sick (of both spirit and body) who it is used on to be healed. Half of it i am giving to a friend who was recently diagnosed with cancer. The rest I am keeping for my own use.

I am sorry to hear about your friend..cancer is a horrible disease that needs to be shut down. Thanks for the BR..But I hope others join this conversation, just to see what they do too...Then again, you are the first person I known that made it themselves, usually I buy them already made.
