Chick Peas or Fava?

I want to make some falafels and have done some reading up on them. Aside from being a tricky recipe to make (so they say) there seems to be some question as to the authentic falafel. Most Americans use chick peas but now I read that in Egypt, they use fava beans. Does anybody here make falafels and do you know which is the right bean to use. I want them to be as authentic as possible as I am taking them to an event of food from around the world..Any help out there is appreciated.

I too have never heard of making falafels with fava beans. I also haven't been brave enough to make falafels and would love to sometime. If you have an easy recipe I'd love to try it.. This reminds me, I will be making blintzes soon. These I have made for a few years and love this Israeli treat..:)

Hi Carm..I know, nobody has..I do a lot of reading about cooking and I come across some pretty obscure stuff. The book I read it in is an old cookbook I found at a yard sale. In any case, I might try half and half and see what happens. In the meantime, I'll pm you the recipe I've decided to use. God forbid we post a recipe in a cooking discussion!! (sorry Mylot but its stupid) J P.S. I LOVE blintzes..My Grandmother made the best in the world!! I really miss those.

Unless they changed it, you can share a recipe if someone asks you for it..What you can't do is start a discussion with a recipe..But you better double check on that before you do..I did get the PM and thanks again, I can't wait to try this. Maybe it in Israel they use chickpeas and Egypt uses fava beans? And most people are more familiar with the Israel recipe.
