I just like to share this to you all. Somebody sent me an email -- a scam letter. She said she fell on it and doesn't want anybody to be a victim like her. I remember, Few months ago, late last year I received an email like what she has received... The email was appeared to be sent by my previous officemate. I think her email account was hacked... That hacker, pretending to be my officemate sent me a letter saying that she got robbed. She was out of the country and was robbed... All her belongings including her credit card was taken and she has nothing... She doen't have money to buy her plane ticket back here in our country... She even said that good thing she has paid half of the hotel bill... I sent her an email, asking what happened really... She replied again and saying that she will pay me right afer she comes home... She needs 1000 dollars she said... I got a little suspecious so I ask some personal questions, regarding our work before and the things we were doing in the office... She did not answer my question but rather repeated only her message of 1000 dollars... Then after that last email of her, I did not anymore bother to reply o her messages... Now after few months, I recieved an email about this. Now its from a person who was been victimized... She said that she was receiving couple of scam letters from a person named ricky, using an email address: ricky.akers@yahoo.com FROM UK Again, if anyone recieved such emails... Please don't believe right away. Ask some questions if they are pretending to be a person you know... Let us all be very careful... Money is hard to earn! Please see the copy of the email sent: Help!!! Hey! I'm writing this with tears in my eyes,I came down here to London,England for a short vacation and i was mugged at gun point last night at the park of the hotel where i lodged all cash, credit cards and cell were stolen off me. I've been to the US embassy and the Police here but they're not helping issues at all,My flight leaves in less than 3hrs from now and am having problems settling the hotel bills. The hotel manager won't let me leave until i settle the hotel bills now am freaked out. I need your help. Regards Ricky Akers. This is not the email that I recieved, for I already deleted mine last year... It is not the exact same story but the prupose is just the same... Have you encountered one like this too? What did you do? Did your respond to the sender? Or you deleted the message right after reading it? Like you know that this is just a scam... What if the sender is using the email address of the person you know, like what happened to me? How would your respond to him or her? Do you think you would send her or him athe money asap, coz it is like an urgent need? If you were nt yet familiar with this scam how would you respond?

if not pure tagalog, taglish with some abbrevation like the ones we use commontly with texting... I think that is one of the basis... Yeah that is what I did when i received an email from a hacker who hacked the email account of my office mate...

Hello lovelyn, if there is a real problem, my mom would have received a call or text messages and it's not on email. but my mom received text messages about a so called balikbayan asking for money. thank god she didn't give any and start probing questions, realizing that the person who text didn't reply anymore. We should all be careful and never believed such messages.

those text scams... I am receiving such also... like asking for "pasa load" (share a load)... pretending to be someone we know... saying her or his old sim card was block... then will ask for some old...like there are no stores to where she/he is.... Yes never believe that easily especially when it involves money...

Let me share you some tips to avoid this kind of emails. If you are a private person, meaning you don't wanna receive emails from anonymous person, don't just open emails that came from people that you don't know no matter how interesting is the subject. And for those people that are in public, or people that are suppose to open emails even from those people that you don't know, I suggest you create another email account an use it on that purpose. Most scam emails are good to read... They will promise you big things.. But beware... In this world of world wide web, if it sounds too good to be true, it is not true.

Yeah right those emails are just so nice to read... Super nice to think that it is true, but those good super promises they do makes the email more suspecious and impossible... thanks for the tips jamed28! I really appreciate it!

I really ignore those kinds of email but thanks anyway for informing us about this. This is quite helpful, at least we are all aware that some email message might appear to be true, we must all treat it cautiously. I don't know what they are getting from cheating people, aside from money of course. Thanks for posting this.

Hi, lovelynmedrano. Thank you for telling me this! Actually, thank you for telling all of this, that has eyes to see this message! I have not received anything like this yet. But I have gotten many emails that were similar to these type of scam messages. These people are asking for something. It is like they need money. I never give into these emails.. I will automatically delete this. Last week, I deleted an email address that was giving me all of kinds of spam. I got tired of reading all of the messages, so I just deleted my account with this email address. I am glad that you did not fall for this bogus crap! You know that this is a scam. How can she send the same email to her office mate and to you. These were during different times. And how can't the hotel manager not let her leave? No one can just hold her under hostage. This woman is out of her mind! This is just crazy! If I was not all that familiar with this scam, I would not send her any money. I don't personally know this woman. And how did she get your email address??? I would not trust anything that she says at all. Don't fall for her scheming lies! She may be trying to get you caught up into something that you can't possibly get yourself out of! Beware of the U.K. scammer! We all should be!

I don't know also why she fell from that scam email sent from someone she doesn't know... But the good thing is she is sharing her bad experience so that others would not be blinded and victimized with that scammer. At least that would awaken and making more people familiar with scams... And yes, why and how did that person got her email address... that alone is questionable,,, she should have be more cautious... I am so sad for her.

i am also not bothered by emails coming from an unknown sender. i will treat them as scam emails so i ignore them and delete them. i know there are some emails that can pass the filters of an email programs but once it gets in, i just tag it as spam and will get in the spam folder next time.

Hello, Lovelyn_medrano. I understand what you want to remind us. I have come across such situations before. The QQ account of my best friend was stolen by other person. When I was on line, I got a message from my friend's QQ number crying me her embarrassing economic condition and expressing her meaning of borrowing money from me. Since she is my best friends for many years, I am worried about her and called her up as soon as possible. She was so surprised by hearing this information and only to find her own account was stolen by someone else. In my opinion, our friends who are in trouble or encounter embarrassment especially about economy, they will call us and express their situation themselves but not just send an email or a message to ask for some money. Nowadays, we do need to raise our guard on various scams. God bless all. Happy mylotting!

oh, i reeceived a similar email from my thesis adviser, stating she is in UK and misplaced her wallet and needs to pay the hotel where she stayed in. i noticed 2 things, 1. its a different email - when my adviser sends me email she uses gmail while that bogus email is using yahoo. 2. the email adress in the FROM and TO text box is the same. its like she is sending an email to herself... i didnt bother reply... and checked her website she is ok...

And why would your thesis adviser ask you some money help? Why not to her close friemds and relatives... Very strange and very suspecious... Of all the possible way of asking for help, why email sending? why not make it more personal... right?
