My sons love to eat steamed rice cakes or "puto." Since I don't know how to make rice cakes from scratch, I just buy a puto mix from the grocery. The end product looks yummy but not as delicious as homemade ones. Does anyone know a simple recipe? I don't think we can post recipes here but I hope you can sends me one.

hi watergirl i also like "puto" especially the red ones, those are much sweeter than the white one. you can found red "Puto" at the supermarket, try it and you will surely like it also.. ahhm, i think the only difference between the two is, in white "Puto" or the regular one uses varnished sugar while the red "Puto" uses Red Sugar that is much sweeter.. have a nice day

here i found a recipe on the net...we usually buy it so i don't have my own recipe for puto ingredients: 4 1/2 cups flour 3 cups milk 3 1/2 tbsps. baking powder 4 eggs 2 1/4 cups sugar 3 tsps. vanilla directions: 1. Mix dry ingredients together. 2. Beat eggs, milk and vanilla. 3. Add the dry ingredients gradually until it becomes nice and smooth. 4. Pour into small non-stick muffin tins about 3/4 full. 5. Steam for about 10 minutes until the toothpick inserted comes out clear. 6. Add some grated cheese on top. 7. Cover it again for about 1 minute until the cheese becomes melted. Serve it while it is nice and hot! you can add salty egg. i love puto with cheese and salty egg!

wheat flour? no, it's allpurpose flour. wheat flour is used for breads. you may use wheat flour for puto but the taste will be different though what flour is healthier.

thanks! This recipe uses wheat flour, I guess... I love cheese or margarine on puto. The salted eggs, I like on "bibingka". Actually, the Cebuano version of bibingka is the puto in Manila! Nevertheless, both are delicious!

it's my fave too and also the rest of the members of our family. my husband knows how to cook it and i always love his recipe. we've been selling them too in schools canteen. it's just that tiresome to cook such bulk. you can download simple puto recipes online.

wow! you're a lucky girl to have a husband who can cook! Selling puto in school canteens is a good idea too but, like you said, it can be tiresome.
