Do you save standby power?

According to an estimate, more than 1% of world`s total power consumption is attributed to standby power... and believe me that is huge. According to 2008` s statistics to total power consumption, if we calculate, then, it amounts to releasing 10^9 kilograms of greenhouse gases released in the atmosphere in a year. This is based on the stat that around 86% of world`s power is generated using fossil fuels like coal. So, if you leave your mobile phone connected after full charging, or switch of your television by remote rather than disconnecting, or let your computer sleep for hours rather than shutting it down etc. then you are one of the culprits of releasing tons of tons of tons of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere every year. Are YOU???

I was aware about this thing and I can say that It was really a sad fact that most of us are not really that saving electricity but instead destroying the earth. Honestly, It's been like me and my mother inside our home was the one's really do unplug cable and save energy. I mean most people were really so lazy to even unplug cable, switch off lights when not in use and not that cautious if they had left electricity running. Even the houses that I sometimes visit was like that and because of this I was really so alarmed like as if time is running so fast for the whole world due to this green house effect.

Yes I do try and save it. I used to think it was crazy to try. I mean, leaving my electric toothbrush on charge even though it's fully charged only consumed about 3 watts an hour. But when I started totaling what that was being on 24/7 and then adding all the other appliances. I realized it added up.

I am very much aware of this, so I save standby power. We gain so much more when we save standby power because aside from helping the environment, it also helps us save some money that would otherwise be spent on electricity. When I'm feeling too lazy to turn off electrical appliances, I just think of how much electricity I'm going to save by unplugging appliances. This helps me get rid of laziness.

This is a good discussion. We should educate people about this, on how much they are wasting and how to avoid wasting them. So guys, let's us unplug all those unused appliances and save energy. Even those appliances are not in used and turn of, if they are still plugged they still consumed energy. Some of us can afford to waste energy, but just imagine the general effect of not saving energy. Help mother earth

I seriously appreciate your appeal. That is what I am trying to do; to spread awareness about these small issues that can lead to big effects in the long run. I do believe small efforts can also bring remarkable changes. Thanks for your response.
