Changes... And Resisting Changes

I work at a bank. I took a transfer opportunity to another branch to get full time hours. I went from about 34 hours a week to 40 hours a week, plus a small raise. I am not one who likes change. I have been here for about 2 months now. Even though it's the same bank, the branches keep supplies in different areas, have different regular customers, slightly different policies and procedures, and other little intricacies... At first, I despised it! The branch is much busier, which I don't necessarily mind since it helps the day go by more quickly and there are more opportunities for referrals, which is one of our requirements. Finally, after a few weeks, I am getting the hang of it. Meeting new co-workers and new routines can be stressful. To make a long story short, I hated it so much I was ready to begin searching for another job! However, things are getting better now and I am more comfortable and feeling as though I fit in more, so I'm happy. : ) How do you respond to change? I was so stressed but just tried to take it one day at a time and now things are better. Are you the same way?

I also work in a bank, and have experienced those very same issues. I have worked in other branches to help out, and it always feels like my first day all over again. I am also not happy with change, most of the time. The worst part is the different policies from branch to branch. I have also experienced a lot of change within my branch by way of staff turnover. I always am nervous but usually can adjust to the changing expectations when someone know comes in. I am definitely slow to warm when it comes to changes, especially ones that I did not have any control over. Out of curiosity, what are your referral goals like, and how big an emphasis is put on meeting your goals? Where I work it seems to be the most important thing, so much so that it takes over.

It's even worse when you love the bank for which you work, then they "merge" with another bank............. That was horrible!!!!!

At my bank we rotate positions so everyone has the same opportunities to get referrals. It is hard to do in drive thru, since most people who use it are in a hurry and you have to talk thru the speaker which isn't always easy to hear, and allows no privacy. Talk with your head teller or manager to see if you can rotate and everyone does one day a week or so on drive thru. It is also helpful for learning to do everything, since certain transactions can't be done in drive thru.

As far as goals they are not too heavily focused, although your annual review does depend on meeting the goals and I will hear crap if I don't. ... I am in drive-thru and it's not exactly easy for me to get referrals here. At my other two regular branches I had no problems. However, this branch is very busy and I am usually in drive-thru by myself, so I don't always have time to evaluate profiles and encourage them to open other accounts, so it's not as easy to get referrals here. : (

Happy that you're liking it now. I had to go through a few changes also over the years and every time Im like you, I stress out over it, thinking the worse will happen. I always allow myself some time whenever theres a change. I'll stick it out for at least 3 months and see how it goes then and take a decision. That way, I feel as if I have an escape route and it helps me put up with the changes.

I think 3 months is a fair amount of time to adjust to and assess the situation. Thankfully, it took me about 2 months....... : )

It all depends on if it is a change for the better or just a change to change things. your change was for the better, better money and hours! To that type of change I would be ok. But if someone is changing things just because , I wouldn't take to that. At my work they try to change things for the beter and most of the time they do but when a change i don't agree with happens , I'll try it their way but if it doesn't work, I will go back to the way I always done things. Thankfully things change for the better most of the time.

I don't know. Some things are very easy for me, others very uncomfortable. I'm not one who does well with getting to know new people, so I rely on there being somebody who is more extroverted than I am.

when you are be used to a job ,you will cultivate a habit .if i were you ,i will hate this change ,but as you see , it has comed out ,so just to adjust it ,we are humans ,so we can be used to just like the job you have used to do .people always want to stay with a familiar environment .if you can not resist the change ,just make the new environment be familiar!this is my mind! glad to share my mind with you!

Good to hear things are going better for you. Change is often a hard pill to swallow if you resist it going down. I am one of those kinds of people that can just go with the flow and let things roll off of my back so change is nothing new to me. Your attitude of taking it one day at a time is pretty much the way I live my life. I am always looking for the next new adventure to pop it head around the corner at any time. Good luck to you at your new branch. Before long it will seem like old hat and you will wonder why you were ever questioning wanting to leave.

There are changes that we must have to accepted, and there are some changes that it takes time to be adapted, like the way they the people in the company work, comparing with the old job, of even the way the new way the new boss try to implement in the department, the changes of the procedures. Now in my department are try to adapt for the new boss, but there some changes that is hard for me to be adapted.
