Unemployed - How did you spend your time while you were unemployed?

All of us have been unemployed sometime or the other. Did you set your priorities even at that time? Did you take sufficient care of your health? Did you while away your time with your friends; or did you spend your time scanning periodicals for vacancies? Did you spend your time reading novels, watching news channels or watching movies. May be you spent your time preparing yourself for the job you were seeking. How did you spend your time while you were unemployed?

since im currently unemployed of course its really important to look after my health not just for me but also for my baby as we dont have money to pay for any medication. thats why i always have vitamins and i watch out for my diet and i sleep a lot to have rest. though of course i cant just sit down and do nothing as i also need to earn for my personal expenses and luckily i have have internet where i can earn extra income just from the comfort of my home. i dont really waste my time in doing something un productive as most of the time im in front of the computer for earnings while watching television to entertain myself while doing mylot. without internet i guess i will become so bored and i have no money even a cents.

Watching television while working on the computer, that is great. I too do the same. However, do take care of your health. That is most important.

thank for the wonders of the internet. during the time of unemployment i made sure i was mobile. though there were days that i just lazied off, i made myself mentally functional. i caught up on my reading. i tried making some arts. i rearranged my playlists. fixed my things, then re-discovered the things that i have. i went out with my friends, cuz this would only be the chance i can freely be with them. i did a lot. i did things that i wont be able to do if am holding a job. so, little things occupied my day, and i slept telling myself that a day didn't just pass by. i may have been vacant from employment, but i didnt leave my brain vacant. =)

hi achilles, I've just resigned from my work on a private school last March. There are lot of factors why I did that. First of all, my salary there is not enough even for me. I do not think that I can save money and help my family with a very meager amount from teaching in a private school. So what I did is that I gathered all my requirements in applying for a public school. As of now, I am just waiting for their call. Next reason is that I want to study. The private school where I was teaching gave me so many subjects to teach. I am definitely overloaded that I cannot find time to study. And last one is that, I want to be financially stable. The salary that I can get from teaching in a public school will guarantee me to be financially stable. I've just decided to look for some work online while I am unemployed as a teacher. What I am doing now is encoding, mylotting and writing articles so I can still have money even I am just at home and waiting for calls. I will also be pursuing a Master's Degree while waiting for me to be hired. It will be every Saturdays only so there will be no problem with my schedule once I get hired.

I see you belong to a noble profession. I have great respect for teachers. My daughter too is one. To be a teacher one must have a vocation. You find the interest waning if you have to teach subjects you are not interested in. I find teachers are mostly poorly paid. I wonder how much money one can make working on line on Internet. I don't think it is enough to sustain you. However, I visited your blog. I find you are too good. I wish you well for all the efforts you are making.

I spent my period of being unemployed studying and adding a new educational qualification to my bio data. I had consciously taken a break from work to complete one of my post graduation courses. It was necessary course to be able to move up in my career.

I appreciate what you are doing. I am sure with added qualification you will fine more avenues to advance your career. The place you are in offers you many opportunities to add new qualification. I have many friends there doing the same thing.

hi bart. nice. being vacant for some days would give you the chance to reassess yourself especially if you've been too busy and too happy with previous employment. it is the chance to see what must improve still. cuz once you start working, you will surely be too preoccupied. =)

I have been one of the fortunate few that had a job from day one of my search for a job. I gave up my job of my own volition to give myself a break at which time I went for swimming lessons, learnt German, took classes in basic computers, went on a foreign holiday and then started a business of my own.

We were self-employed for over 20 years. We had 8 semi trucks and drivers and our own commercial garage. We have sold everything but our farm and the garage that we have rented out. I went to work 5 years ago (yesterday!) but I got fired last September, they said lack of production but I was at their production goal, I just could not keep it up and everything else they were piling on to then they cut in our department and didn't replace anyone. We have a very high unemployment rate here, so I am still not working. I have managed to keep our health insurance and after getting fired I did have surgery, nothing drastic, so yes I have kept our health up. I am spending time with my children and grandchildren. Later today my daughter and I are going shopping. (I have to have an ink cartridge so I can print out my program for this Sunday) I am a Sunday School teacher and a Wednesday night Children's Bible class teacher/director. This Sunday the children are doing presentations in church on what we have been learning. (Got to have that ink cartridge!!) Since I am not working I have been able to apply my self more to my Church classes, read my Bible more. Done some cooking with my grandchildren.

When I was aged 18 years old I came home from children's nannying in Finland and worked at a shipping company in London. I bought a cottage when I was 19 years old. Life seemed to be going really well and then I got made redundant. That came a terrible shock. I spent my time applying for job after job. I went to some interviews. I became so sad with all that rejection. I decided to travel around the world. So I let out my cottage and bought an airline ticket. I got a working holiday visa for Australia. Off I went around the world for just over one year. When I came home I studied to become a primary school teacher. It is well worth retaining.

I'm currently unemployed right now. I resigned cuz i had to finish my studies. After i get my license, i'll look for another job in line with my field of study. Working is hard especially when you get a job that doesn't require a diploma.

If I am financially stable as of the moment I was unemployed then I will plan to have sometime for myself, it will be a chance for me to get refreshed and a time to realize things, a time to realine your health and it is a time to spend with your family. Then after you've done all the things that I think I needed to and is ready to get busy for work then that's the time I'll look for another job.

I was unemployed last year for 8 months. What I did to spent my unemployed days is to spent some more time that I miss together with my son and also with my beau. I've been working hard before. I even dont have time to sleep. Since I free of all obligations, I sleep as much and long I want too and watch and keep on watching tv as long as I want too. When my beau visited me in our hometown I got time to be with him all the time and go to places that he would like to go. I spent my unemployed days in a very memorable and good memories to keep. I miss those days. I feel like I am on vacation for the whole 8 months.

it's been 10 years now since i decided to give myself a break from employment. i spent that year on hobbies that i had always wanted to do but never had time for while i was working. i also learned some new crafts. i'm thinking of taking another break from work. i think one needs time off for rest and rejuvenation.
