How do you find history?

For most people i have met, they usually answer that History is a boring subject, a boring discussion of past events. More on memorizing about the names, dates, places of past human events.. I may say, that is the common concept of history, but history is NOT about memorizing because when you memorize, it will be forgotten after the exam or maybe after an hour. The objective of history is to let us understand what had happened in the past, the HOWs and WHYs should be the appropriate questions to that. We must understand how and why it happened rather than who, where and when .

History has always been an easy subject for me and I've always done extremely well in it, but I cannot help, but find it boring. I understand the importance of history and the significance of learning the facts of what happened in a given time period, but I just have never been able to get myself interested whenever I'm in a history class unfortunately. I still do well in the classes. I just don't enjoy myself.

It depends on how I learn it. If I am watching the History Channel or visiting a museum it is very interesting. But if I am reading it or listening to someone drone on it can get boring. If it is an interesting topic or it is taught in a fun way it can be very relateable.

You are absolutely right. History is something that is interesting and full of events that can give you knowledge if you just take time to understand it. I like history because it shape our world and it make us understand better how nation was created and how our historical story unfolds. Actually history is like magic when it will open it's doors you will be delighted. I don't understand why others find it a boring subject. For me history is very interesting because it all accounts for the events that happen in the past. Because of history we learn so much of what happened in the past and it will make easier to understand our future too.

Some will find history as a boring subject because it is really boring if the way it is delivered to us is to let us memorize, then it is definitely boring.. It should let us understand why and how it happened..

And that's the problem of some teachers who forces the students to memorize those information which they themselves cannot even remember. History should be taught to let the students understand what have happened in the past, rather than let them memorize the names, places and dates of the past..

In the first place I am a Chinese student who studies science.if there is no exams I will think it is wonderful.we can learn a lot about what happened many years ago, just as you say HOW AND WHY.However we have to know WHO WHERE WHEN due to the exams. If one person likes history ,he will not find the history boring.(my English is not good)

I believe the reason most people find history to be boring is because, as far as school goes, most teachers don't know how to make it fun and interesting. The same could be said for all subjects in school. Learning the who, where, and when is important but, I agree, learning the how and why is just as important and probably more so. I believe it's easier to learn and remember the who, where, and when, if more emphasis is put on the more interesting and intriguing facts of history. For instance, I never had much interst in history or reading for that matter until I saw the movie TITANIC, believe it or not. All I knew was that the Titanic hit an iceberg and sunk. I didn't know when or where it happened. But I was so fascinated by the movie that I just had to learn more. I began buying books about it every chance I got. But, I didn't focus on the date and the place. Like you said, I was more interested in the HOW and WHY. I was fascinated by how luxurious the ship was, it's size, the different cultures and backgrounds the passengers came from, and the technology of the time that went into the ship as well as other interesting facts. Through reading all of this I found it came pretty easy to remember the date that it sank. From there my interest spread to World War II and other historical subjects. Now, history is my favorite educational subject to study. If teachers would make learning about history more fun then perhaps more people would find an interest in it and be the better for it.

My mother loves history and she enjoys reading books about history. When I was in elementary school and in high school I didn't understand why she found history so interesting. I found most of it pretty boring, and I didn't enjoy the history lessons at school. My history teacher in high school was always in a bad mood and it seemed like she didn't like teaching and just wanted to get through the lessons. She showed no enthusiasm whatsoever, and I found it hard to get interested in the topics she was talking about. After high school I have read several books about history, and now that I read on my own, I find it interesting to read about history.

I would say History is never boring if you have a liking for it, I have always found it boring though at the beginning but when I started working as a researcher I find history the most interesting subject to learn. The past makes me realized how people were and how we came to this situation of today. I like history a lot it has helped me know many things about my own country, the evolution, the destruction and the reconstruction.

Yes, I have heard people say History is boring, but I think it can be when it is taught at school, as the emphasis is (as you say) on dates and facts, the Kings and Queens of England in our schools. But as you get older, History becomes fascinating, especially as you can choose what you want to read about. I am not interested in some things, so I don't choose to study them any longer, but some things are fascinating to me (like the Holocaust and concentration camps, the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki) so I choose to read about these subjects.
