The myth of the red and blue. Are both sides just alike and have the same goals?

The other day I was watching Jessy Ventura (James Janos or former Governor Ventura) he is a confirmed independent who was discussing the current political scheme and he was saying politics is no different than wrestling, on camera they act like they hate each others guts but off camera they are just the same and take money from the same people. It reminds me of the show Futurama where there is two clones running for president saying the same exact same thing but wording it slightly different.
