My dog's sore foot

Four months ago, my dog suffered a problem with her sciatic nerve and her whole limb (left hind leg) became paralyzed. Not really sure how it happened. Perhaps she slipped on the ice. Consequently she dragged her toes for several weeks as the leg was beginning to get better... Before I could even get her to the vet (snowy weather and icy roads) she had also developed a sore on the top of her foot. Now her leg has healed enough as far as the paralysis that she can use her limb more, seems to have more control over it, still drags the toes sometimes. But the sore on the top just won't heal. She just keeps whacking that foot into things. I am keeping it wrapped, changing the dressings daily, so far there is no infection...but ...it just doesn't want to heal and form fresh skin. Any suggestions???

It may be staying too moist for the tissue to heal properly. Take her to the vet and see if they can splint or cast it so that she does not drag it but so that the air can get to it. It may also be forming what is called "proud flesh". If this is the case then the vet would have to scrape it so that the healing process can continue. I know that when my horse took a rough tumble and we kept it bandaged up this occurred.
