Flush it once, flush it twice

Philippines

It has been bothering me, every since I started working, why some women on our floor, during bathroom breaks, would first flush the toilet before using it, and then flushing it again after. I mean, the toilet is clean and all, and they still flush it.. Isn't that like waste of water or something? LOL. Anyway, I was just wondering, does anyone here do that? I would really like to know if I need to flush the toilet before I pee cause it maybe doing something or it maybe good for me, I just don't know it.

You flush it before you sit on it if someone left some poop, or didn't flush their pee. Don't want to get germs.

If its a public restroom then yes, I would. There's just something about public restrooms that makes you want to flush the toilet before you sit on it. Especially if you've witnessed the gross things that I have. In a private bathroom, no I wouldn't.

well, it's understandable if the toilet is not clean, but what if it's clean, would you still flush before you use it?

flush the toilet - do you flush the toilet before and after using it?
it's better if you would!
hi ing, yes it's much cleaner and safer to get rid of germs my friend! when i'm outdoors i don't usually sit in bowls to prevent myself getting germs from it and make sure i flushed first before and after using it. when i'm at my own home i also do it,we are too many in thew house so better keep it clean.though there's only one guy who is our father.it's much safer to keep it always clean.it's not a wastage of water,it's just for your health also. i remember my co worker back then, she was about to fight with a certain girl who didn't flushed the toilet after using it.i just told her not to make a scene, but they were both fighters,my friend! well, the other girl has flushed but the pee is still there,so my friend murmured and then the girl heard her.then they argued...

Hehehe. Well, I guess there's really no harm in trying to be clean as much as possible.

Hahahaha. Well, of course you have to flush it if it still has pee on it, but there are women, who right after I use the stall and I always flush, and of course they would hear the flush.. they would still flush before using the same toilet. I mean, isn't that a little too much already?

no,that's just alright,my friend! it's just for safety in case, there's still bacteria on it... there's nothing wrong with it,right? sometimes i also do use of dipper to put water on the bowl sides also. just to make it clean...

oh wow, so you flush a couple of times, even if it's your own toilet? I guess it really does depend on the person.

sometimes when the toilet is flushed, there's that nice perfumey & antiseptic smell that comes out (especially if there is some of that toilet bowl treatment stuff in it). so this 'double-flush' technique may be a way to get the toilet all nice smelling before someone begins a new 'session'

Hehehehe. one of my officemate said, that since she was a little girl, her mom had taught her that she should always flush twice, and until now she is still doing it, although she can't really explain why she have to do it. LOL.

Yeah, that's true..I squat whenever I use public toilets, which I think are not clean, but in our office, I know that they clean it like every hour, so I feel that it's clean enough for me. Hehehe.

lol.. well, my mom taught me to squat to avoid contact with germs... that's probably the reason why i dont have to flush twice everytime... :)

Do you see the toilet before they flush it? I am not asking this to sound rude, but I am genuinely curious. There are times at work that I will flush it before I use it because I will see that a piece of toilet paper may not have flushed all of the way. I do not want my toilet paper to add to that toilet paper and cause the toilet to clog. So I flush it before and after. I also may flush a toilet twice, once before wiping and once after wiping. It all depends on the situation and my experience in the bathroom.

Hi Valenas, Of course I look, I always check if the bowl and the seat is clean... One point though, I don't think you're suppose to put the tissue on the toilet, cause it can clog it.

I have seen people flush the toilet before using it. i sometimes wondered why they did it. All I could come up with was they were afraid of germs. You never know who is using a public facility before you. I really don't see it necessary to flush first, but people have to be comfortable with their environment.

Yeah, I guess there are just some who use it out of habit and out of being cautious with cleanliness and stuff.

I only do that when I see that there are some particles floating--ewww. Otherwise, no, I go directly to my business and flush it afterwards. Yes, that would be a waste of a lot of water to flush it even when it's clean.

Yeah, that's true.. A lot of people like you said that they would only do it if it's not clean. But a lot of my officemates do it regardless if the toilet is clean or not.

Well it seems like the extra flushes would be courtesy flushes for a person who is dropping a heavy load in the toilet. The extra flushes would eradicate the smells. But for women to just to it without having to drop is like a waste of water. But I guess to each it own.

Yeah, I guess it really depends on the person. I was just really curious cause I didn't know all about flushing it twice, until I started working. hehehhe.

Hehehehehe. It's the one million dollar question, do we really have to flush it before we use the toilet? I think I'm really going to have to do some research on this, didn't know that A LOT of people are actually really doing it.

Hi,Ingkingderders! I don't know why to flush twice, either. But I think there may be some reason in it. Most of public toilets I have seen will flush automatically before using and flush again after using, there must be something considered by the designers.

Ahhh. I haven't seen public toilets that flush twice.. Public toilets here sometimes automatically flush, but that's after you pee.. and that's the cleaner public toilets.. hehehe..

Yep it is a waste of water. I don't know if it's anything to do with cleanliness, and I sure don't do it, but I've heard in Japan some women are really shy about other people hearing them pee. So they would flush the toilet at the same time. Now they have little boxes in stalls that make the noise of a flush. Maybe that's what they're doing? Performance anxiety?

Ahahahha. I have been to Tokyo, and I was so confused with their toilets! There was like a hundred buttons you could push for flushing, and then there's the water that would clean your privates, and then there's the sound that was really weird for me, until my sister who was living there explained, that some women doesn't like it the sound of their peeing to be heard, so Japanese integrated the sounds to the toilet, cause they want people to just push for the sound, rather than waste water...

I do it now. I do it, one because I have OCD and to flush someone's extra germs and crud out just in case. After I am done, I then flush it and leave the stall. It's a thing with the germs. I usually hit the handle with my foot and move back. Spray from the toilet will shoot germs 20 ft. in the air, and I'm not kidding, put food coloring in a public toilet and see where it goes--you will be amazed. Then after i have sanitized my spot, I do my business and then flush again. Yeah, it wastes water but then again, the thought of me peeing and someone elses business splashes up and gets my rear end kinda grosses me out.

Hehehehe. I also flush using my foot, and I don't know anybody who still flushes using their hands, well, unless you're in your home.. I didn't know that germs can shoot up to 20ft in the air.. Interesting fact, I think I would always remember that everytime I use and flush after I pee. hehehe.

Hi, Ingkingderders. Yes, I used to flush the toilet twice like this when I was staying with my in-laws. And, every time that I looked in the toilet, there was like spit particles. So, I would flush the toilet the first time. Then I would flush it a second time too, once I am finished using the toilet.

But if the toilet is clean, would you still flush before using? I notice that women in our office do it just out of habit, and not whether it's clean or not..

Usually, what I just check if the toilet seat is clean or not, if it's not then I'm definitely be squatting like crazy.. but the bowl itself.. well, I do flush it if it's not clean, but if it looks okay then I won't.
