Would you rather give up your happiness to make someone else happy. If so why. What do you think you could accomplish by doing this? What would you tell someone trying to make the decision of giving up their happiness to make someone else happy? Please explain.

Hi kendra, I would never consider giving up my own happiness to "make someone else happy". The reasons are this: For one, no one can "make someone else happy". Happiness is a state of mind. An attitude. A personal choice to be or not to be. We all have that gift of freedom, to choose. Secondly, if I were to give up everything that I found contentment, therefore happiness in, I would be miserable so would not be able to share joy and happiness with another. Which is contagious. Instead I would be miserable and only be able to offer misery. There is nothing that could be accomplished by giving up all that appeases you in order to think you could make someone else happy. It just doesn't work that way. Happiness or misery. We all have the personal power to choose. No one can make us happy. Being in the company of someone whose company that you enjoy can leave you feeling happy however. Being in the company of someone who is depressed can leave you feeling drained and unhappy. At the same time we can choose to not let someone who is miserable bring us down. I find that the only way I can accomplish that is to limit my exposure to such people.

Really, you don't give up your happiness, you share it. For if you were to give up your happiness to someone, they would be happy. Therefore, it should make you happy that you have made another person happy, you see?

What would you tell someone trying to make the decision of giving up their happiness to make someone else happy? Well, I would say, "Keep it up, you're doing great!". Actually, that's what the God (through his word, the Bible) wants us to do. To sacrifice, just like what Jesus has done for us. But unfortunately, it's very hard thing to do that. We're just humans, and we are naturally weak.
