So I decided on a local dish provider. They are cheaper than any cable company around and offer more channels at a lower price. I have two tv's and they are set so that you can watch something different on one than the other one. so I go to my bedroom to watch tv and all of a sudden it jumps to a channel. I press"recall" and put it back then it skips to another channel. I now sit with my finger on recall so I can try to keep it on the channel I want to watch. I finally figured it out. Someone else's remote is being picked up by my box, but only on the bedroom tv not the other one! I gotta call them... it really freaked me out just jumping around like that. It was like the tv was channel surfing!

You must have thought your apartment is haunted, huh!! I never experienced that. I would have freaked out. Thank you for sharing this, if it ever happened to me, I would not be so freaked out now.

I was really freaked out at first! Now it's just annoying. I want to watch something on tv and relax by kicking back in my bed.. but the channel keeps changing!

My one year old daughter does it all the time when her sister is watching her cartoons. So we have to put the remote high up. She loves to press the button and look at the TV to check if it really does anything. I can understand how annoying that would be. Oh well, here's a good wish coming your way hoping you will sort it out soon.

You may need different box from the satellite company. Yours may be using the same frequency as a neighbor's box. Which means you could be changing other people's channels when you use youir remote.

I tried reprogramming to use a different channel on my tv, but it still jumps. I am not sure if it's affecting theirs yet. It jumps channels a lot, but I know theirs turns mine on and off. I'll be sitting in the living room, where the box is and the blue light will just come on indicating the other tv is being used!

I don't think it's due to the channel the TV is set to but the frequency at which the remote communicates with the satellite box. Actually I could be totally wrong. If the remote is using light (infrared?) to send a signal there shouldn't be any "cross talk" from a neighbors remote. I did have trouble with the remote for an old VCR affecting my TV awhile back so it is possible for interference of some kind to be causing the problem. Agin it might be as simple to cure as to have the satelite company switch out your control box and remote.

lol! That's what I thought at first. Then realized the remote was right next to me but the tv kept switching channels. I am going to try to program it on a different channel and see if it works from there because it's very annoying to be watching something and it just switch to another channel that I don't even have!
