The World Cup

As many of you know the world cup is a major ordeal for the soccer community, countries all around the world practically stop just to watch the world cup. Not only do these countries cheer on all the other teams that are playing as well as their home team, but they give respect to the sport. This also rings true for many other sports that are found around the world, for example rugby, polo, etc. However, here in the United States, you see many of the television stations pre-empting their programing for award ceremonies but you don't see them doing the like for The World Cup. I find it degrading and rude to the American Team. You always find them taking time out of their programming schedules for other sports like basketball, football and of course baseball, but, why not soccer. This game has been around a lot longer, competition is all over the world not just in the United States. It is amazing how disrespectful the U.S. television stations are being to this great sport. Oh sure you can watch some of the games on ESPN, but that station was designed specifically for sports, the others have not, yet they take the time do show other sporting programs. Our soccer players here in the U.S. deserve the respect of its nation, not getting thrown on the back burner the way it is.

That is a shame the US team are not getting the recognition they deserve! It is a huge event over here in the UK, one of the biggest sporting events for us. It is England's next game this afternoon and a lot of houses and cars have English flags up and everyone is talking about it. Some schools and workplaces are even putting the game up on big screens this afternoon! My husband has taken a half day at work, so he can come home to watch it!

Hi Karen, We have a friend in England, that is so excited that she can't wait to watch the game. Here, though, it seems to only be all about American Football, Basket ball or baseball, when the true sport of Soccer, that has been around much longer is truly not recognized like it should. I think I need to move to England. lol.... Then again, we have always talked about moving back to Europe to live.
