What would you do?

My female dog is constantly grounding her ears on the ground as they irritate her. I have taken her to the vet thinking that she could have a wax build up...apparently she doesn't & the vet has said to put drops in her ears. I constantly try to clean her ears out with a damp face washer, let them dry out & then put drops in her ears but this only seems to fox the problem temporarily. I am saving up to take her back to the vet but in the mean time, what would you do?

i have 3 female dogs. 2 of which have/had this. the temporary solution was those drops, it works, for one of my dogs it worked very well. consult with your vet about a possible infection or parasite, both are possible, both should not be much of a problem if treated timely. i really hope my two cents helps you, and im sorry for your dog's discomfort, i hate when my pets aren't at their best :(

When I did take her to the vet, he said her ears were fine...due to being on a tight budget, I am trying to save to take her to another vet to get another opinion.

It turned out to be a yeast infection which is going to be ongoing I need to constantly keep her ears clean according to the vet.

Awww, your poor dog. There are different types of earmites, and one the vet would have to take a scraping of her ear to find. They are called scabies and if he didn't take a sample, he wouldn't know if they were there or not. It causes intense itching and needs to be treated quickly, as these mites lay eggs, and then they re-hatch. The medicine will kill the mites that are seen through a microscope but not the eggs, this is why it takes so long to clear up, and the medicine needs to be put in their ears for quite some time. Sometimes they will dip the dogs in a solution for a quick kill. It's miserable.

I so hope it's not mites...I can't afford the prices they charge for a scraping

Has the vet checked your dog for allergies? Allergies can make dogs' ears itchy. The problem is that dogs can be allergic to many of the same things humans are and it can be expensive to nail it down to a particular substance (there may be more than one, also). Try switching her to a low-allergy dog food and see if that helps. If she does have allergies, here is a link that will help you: http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-care-for-a-dog-with-allergies
