well may a times i feel i am lagging in spoken english and make mistakes like not letting some words fall out of my mouth and left unnoticed and make more gramatica errors. this makes other people to understand. while english is not my country language but for greater communication i feel i am lagging in this field. how shall i improve on it without any ivestment or coaching. well its easy to write in english but diffiult to explain as it require more fluency and better understanding of language. can you refer me some books that can help me to improve it within a month or so (less time). thaks in advance.

Same situation here. I also belong to a country where English is not the primary language. But we have to learn it for better communication and also for getting better jobs. Though I am much better in this respect from my college friends but I know I need to improve. And the only way to improve English is to talk as much in English as possible. There is no other way of doing it. One more problem comes when we don't live in a society where English is primary language of communication. We can easily improve our writing skills by using some sites like myLot or by writing on paper itself, but for improving spoken English we have to struggle to find the place where each and everyone is interested.

Hello! :) I come from a family where half of the people speak only Spanish and the other half are bilingual (English, yay). I think that English is one of the hardest languages to learn but you can definitely do it! There are some ESL practice websites available online, and practicing talking to others in a forum such as MyLot is a great way to practice grammar. :D Best of luck and let me know if you want to talk!

well, the only way you can do it is by practicing more and more... as a saying goes, practice makes perfect... don't be afraid to make mistakes and if people laugh at you because of your mistakes or funny accent, just ignore them and tell them straight that you are still learning to improve your verbal english... that's how i learn and managed to improve my verbal english quickly in the past... take care and have a nice day...

I can't say that I am now perfect in speaking English but base on my self evaluation, it's better than before when I started mylot. While you are active in posting you will learned alot of things such as grammar and some depth words that we are not used before. The secret of that is be active and continue posting. Make your words simple and easy to understand although sometimes you misspelled but mylotters will understand. We can't avoid some criticism also but consider it as a challenge don't be upset or annoyed and give up.

Yes I agree with dweebs_8000_j. The best way to improve your spoken english is to speak more english. It's simply 'practice makes perfect'.

I believe that for one to improve speaking a particular language such as english, he/she should practice it by constant communication of the language. To improve your english skills, you have to use it in communicating with the people around you. It'll make your improvement faster. Its better if you're with people who also speak english as well. Aside from that, another easy way is for you to watch english movies. You can mimic how the actors/actresses speak english so that it'll help you know the pronunciation of english words. Also, if you want to improve your grammar and diction, english books are a big help for you to learn the language , spoken or written. Best of luck.

That is not at all a problem. Just continue to speak in English and everything will fall at the right place. If you are an Indian, try to watch news channels frequently. It gives you a good vocabulary practice of how to prnounce. Many will advise to watch HBO and AXN but the best thing to be done is watching news channels alone

learning the english language could be easy for you since you already have a background of it. but of course, it would help a lot if you read english books ang learn about the proper construction of a sentence as well as the grammar. speaking in english most of the time can also improve your speaking skills and boost your self confidence. you don't have to woory. not all people are fluent in english. you are not alone in this world..

When I was younger I knew a gentleman who had gone to a foreign country for two years as a missionary. He told me the best way to learn a new language is to talk to the children. Children, too, are learning the language and they tend to be less judgmental than the adults. My grandfather was from Germany and his parents immigrated to the US when he was just a child. As soon as they landed on US soil, my great-grandparents stopped speaking German altogether until they and their children all mastered the English language. They call it immersion now. I read the other posts here and they have some good ideas...like listening to the news and reading posts here on mylot but if you really want your grammar to be good, you need to realize that not all on mylot have good English, too. I would suggest practicing with an English-speaking friend or neighbor for spoken, get an email pen pal for the written. English was my strong suit in school when I was growing up so I have excellent grammar, spelling and usage. Whenever I take an IQ test, linguistics are always my strongest area. If you need an email penpal, I am available. :)

Hello. In my opinion English is not that hard to learn but it takes time. The grammar is the hardest part ,you should try focusing there first. Some of the things i do to improve my English is watch movies without subtitles, listen to some of the shows on TV or even play a computer game. The best way you can learn new stuff is when you are having fun doing it so i suggest you to try something you like.Hope i was helpful :)
