tips for correcting and commenting on students writing assignments

Hello,dear native english teachers and professors, as an english teacher from china, i just wonder if you can offer me some ideomatic words and comment on how to refine, correct and comment on students's writing assignments. Thanks a lot.

goush, I don't think idiomatic expressions are appropriate when correcting literary works. I used to scratch out erroneous parts with red ink and straightforwardly write what the students must do instead.
