Why do we hesitate to reveal our true age?

I am 18.I notice many, if not most, keep their calender age private on their profile. I am curious as to why? Do you think revealing your true age would box you into a particular age category? Restrict your sense of connecting?Just a basic need for privacy? (Such as using an avatar that is not an actual photo.) It is not an issue. I am just curious.

Many people don't reveal their age online simply because of private matters. Others don't reveal their age because, perhaps they are not proud to express it. It's like being congratulated on your 16th birthday, would feel a lot different if someone congratulated you on your 40th birthday. When you're 16, you don't worry about your age. You're still young. As you start getting older, you don't try and think about how old you are, but how you can look younger.

Not just that. Privacy plays a big role. Many people just don't feel comfortable sharing their private information over the internet because they are scared it can be used against them in someway.
