Cele phone numbers aren't perment and can change at any given time. Someone on a contract, it may be possible to find them in the phone book if they allow for it, but not everyone desires this. Its better to keep things as is especially pertaining to mobile phones. Besides there are other ways of looking up someone you can't find if they do not wish to have land line service.

first there is no directory as this is against the rules of TRAI in India. other thing if there will be a directory, you will get a number of hoax calls and in many cases people will misuse the numbers. the girls number will be used for abusive etc. and some other marketing activities.

The reason there is no such directory is because cell numbers unlike landlines switch at an extremely fast rate. So it would take a huge amount of money for a directory to be created to keep track of the numbers that are being used and by whom they are being used. I get calls and text from people for the high school student who had my number before i received it.

Hi, I think that is because the mobile phones are supposed to be private. Landlines are essential to reach a family, office etc. But when you are using a mobile, you have the sole right to make the decision as whom to give your numbers. As cell phones are more frequently used than land lines, they are more exposed to abuse. Thanks God bless you

Because people can easily change their mobile number by changing their SIM cards. Here in the Philippines SIM cards are really cheap. So people can change their number anytime they want. And there's no law stopping people from doing so. But I agree with you that there should be telephone directory for mobile phones. So prank callers can easily be reprimanded. But its one hell of a tedious task.

I DO NOT WANT MY CELL NUMBER IN A PUBLIC DIRECTORY!!! And it seems a LOT of people feel like I do. Some of the major carriers announced a few years back that they were going to publish a directory of just cell numbers & the public outcry STOPPED them in their tracks. If I want somebody to have my cell number, I'll give it to them. If I didn't give it to them, that means I don't want to spend MY money talking to them!!!!.

I would rather that there is a directory for landlines provided by so many service providers. Many have switched over and sometimes we are not informed about it which makes it difficult to keep in touch.
