I could not recall of any allergies before I reached the age of seventeen, I use to eat all types of crustaceans like lobster, shrimp, crabs and crayfish without the fear of hives and itching... but all that changed after I reached 17... I'm almost allergic to all this seafood goodies.. to include dust and strong perfume... did my frequent past exposure to these crustacean allergen triggered this immune response... or is it my body telling me to stop?

I've never had a food allergy but I am allergic to metal jewelry, which didn't manifest itself until I was seventeen, also. I think that as we mature, our bodies settle into what they want to put up with and what they don't. It's not due to exposure so much as our bodies coming into maturity and chemical changes in our bodies. Allergies can be acquired but I don't know how much of it is due to exposure and how much is just from our own bodies' changes as we age.
