Resume editing

I know this probably doesn't go here, but I'm oping to still get some information. I'm revising my resume and I have employment gaps and have had many short term jobs in my life. I'm wondering if it's possible for someone like me to write up a resume that didn't include any work history and try and start brand new. I've already heard of the resume that doesn't use dates, I believe it's a "functional resume" or something. I'd rather just have a clean slate and explain to possible employers my situation if/when I go in for an initial interview. Thanks in advance.
