Nuclear Power Plant

Hey There What do you think of utilizing Nuclear Power to solve our energy problems? Do you think its okay to implement it here in the Philippines? As for me I think its okay as long as we only hire the best to maintain the plant. We already have one in Bataan and I think its still okay to reopen it. There are lots of benefits in using nuclear power but it can cause great catastrophe if not maintained right. So I'm only pro for it if and only if the government can assure us that everything is ALWAYS under their control. How about you? What do you think?

It's a good idea of saving energy and make full use of the energy availble on earth. But some people are worried about the safty...Especially the workers who work in these plant may get radiation and suffer from cancer or other disease... My physics teacher once visited one nuclear plant in China. The people who work inside the plant have much more salary than those outside, mainly because their work is much more dangerous.Of course we can use robots, but that just increase the cost of the whole industry. And the energy will be very expensive to produce....

Good thing they are paid high. I don't think anyone in their right mind will work in that dangerous place if not compensated well.

The Bataan Nuclear Plant is one of the government facilities that is waiting to be rehabilitated and used. The money spent for building it will be a total waste if it will not be used. On the other hand, if it will be re-opend and the people who will man it are not expert, then it will cause much trouble to our country.

Yes that's the problem. We need the best people to work on those sites. That's another thing that our government needs to consider if we want to use nuclear power.

No, nuclear power plants are very dangerous. It's better to be safe than sorry. We can use a lot of natural sources of energy. Nuclear power plants as i said is dangerous whatever other people say. It is catastrophic once something goes wrong,

Yes I agree with you. Its really scary if something goes wrong. That's just one of the obstacles that we need to overcome.

i have nothing against anyone here who opposes or against the re-opening of the bataan nuclear power plant or building another project. but i do believe that a nuclear power plant is one of the solutions for our electricity problems. those happened in the other countries were isolated cases so we should not always think that the same catastrophe that happened to those places will also happen to us. there are countries who are still using these kinds of power sources and they have no problems with electricity.

i think it would be okay as long as the immediate needs of the country is met first. it's like you need a shirt and the one that catches your fancy costs 1,000 php. yet if you buy the shirt you won't have anything left for electric bills, water bills, rent or even food (either one of these choices). so, which one do you prioritize? that shirt would look good on you if you don't have debts haunting you and your landlord sees you in a good light and you don't look famished since you haven't been eating properly. same thing with that nuclear power plant. a boast of technology and improvement but a loud signal of misplaced money in a country where the majority of people don't have jobs.

Hello Juggerogre, I don't know,Marcos tried having us a Nuclear Power Plant but after martial law,we spent billions of pesos paying for something that has never been used! and now, we are free from the bataan nuclear scandal there i don't know in our present situation we can actually do something. maybe if richard gordon had won, he would have negotiated for another nuclear power plant and he can plan it well since he is an expert in many projects that he did in subic. but with the legislator, with out executive experience Noy, i strongly doubt that. lopez are happy and that means more money in meralco

You got a point. I also really doubt if Noynoy will do something about it since his mother is against something that Marcos started. But if I am him I will really consider nuclear power.

even if i believe that nuclear power is a great benefit to our country, i also find it dangerous. First we are in a earthquake prone area. And next i dont want to have another chernobyl.

Nuclear power plant is the best alternative source of energy. Its costly but its a cheaper in process compared to some. The Aquino govt. should be liable of not implementing the plant. Because of scattering fear because of what happen to Chernoblyl in 1986. The westinghouse are the best nuke plant maker then shut down because of blah blah or its the project of Marcos.Another on problem is that its near the fault. What about the feasiblity study done by the company. Are they dumb of choosing that place. Even the phivolcs clear that. Why are no complaining on the safety of Geothermal plant that is basically near a volcano. Engineers now can design sructures that can sustain a magnitude 10 eathquakes. South Korean have nuke plant in the city (no fear)but look at them now some of the biggest industry are at them because of cheap power cost. All I can say is Risks are part of human Life.

I live on an island here in the US and It does'nt really seem to help any with cost. they sell the power to a differant company which then bill us on the island? mind you this plant is only a mile away and I still by up to 600 dollar a month for electricity, mind you that includeds gas water garbage pick up and gas. but they raise the cost with cost adjustments monthly. last month it was a stright 99.00 dollars with no explaination. Form what I hear, they would only allow the plant to be built if this one company was allowed to by and resell the power in the local area due to the fact that This one electric company would go under. so the pepole a state away that are using the power are only paying 50 - 60 dollars a month compared to those of us much closer.
