I finally made bath salt, and I wanted to put some in my booth at the flea market. However, I wanted to color the salt, and read somewhere to add food coloring. I am thinking the food coloring is not safe. If you have made bath salt, did you use food coloring? If not what did you use?

If food coloring is safe to eat by putting it in food, why would you think it's not safe to put in something you'll add to bath water? I have no idea how food coloring would work with bath salts, meaning how it would mix up and turn out, but I can say with a fair amount of certainty that it wouldn't be dangerous or harmful in any way.

Oops, I goof. I meant would it stain the bath tub if I use food coloring. I was going to experiment until I found the right color.

Ah, different story altogether. I have no idea, and I'm not even sure how you could test something like that. Bathtubs are made from various types of material, so it might stain one and not another.

I have never had any problems with the food coloring staining my tub. It does not stain the skin so I do not see how it would stain something like a tub.

I had some red food coloring in the cupboard, and I add a little to bath salt. It came out okay, but I need a different color.

Hello, I make bath salt to sale and to give as gifts. I always use food coloring in mine and I have had no problems or concerns. When you add the food coloring to your bath salt and it gets on your hands or clothes it does stain, but in the bath salt and in the bath water it is diluted to the point that it does not stain. I would think that it is safe. After all we do bake with it and it does not hurt us. The soap coloring just is not as pretty as the food coloring and the neon is the one that I use the most. Hope this helps!!!

I will try again. I have added food coloring many times to my salts. The only possible problem would be the extra moisture. If not dry it will clump and dry hard.

Okay, I guess this might be something I have to experiment in small quantities and proceed from there. Well after church tomorrow, I will spend sometime experimenting with the salts.
