Have you ever been asked to stud your dog?

My husband was walking our make staffy on the weekend & was asked if we would like to put him in stud with their female staffy as they liked the look of him. Have you ever been asked about doing this with your dog? I don't know how they plan to pay or anything as he doesn't have papers although he is a purebreed.

In my opinion, you should not "stud your dog" because YOU as a stud dog owner are just as responsible for bringing those puppies into the world as the female owner, and if they don't go to good homes..you are responsible for adding more dogs to the shelter population.

This is very true...all of the pups do go to good homes & if they get abused, we actually take the puppy off the owner & then deal with the owner & find a new good home for the pup.

We used to have a pure bred Irish Setter that we used for stud service. Usually you set the stud fee at the price of a puppy or you get pick of the litter as your fee. As long as the people wishing to breed to him understand that he does not have papers and the pups can not be registered then there should be no issue there. The only other thing you need to make sure of is that their female has a clean bill of health. Dogs can pick up STD's just like humans do, so if they have previously bred their female you will certainly want to know this information. If you seriously consider this you also need to make sure that you have a place that is secure for thier female. As the female always should be bred at the male's home, otherwise you run the risk of him becoming a wanderer, looking for other females to breed.

Thanks for the advice I wasn't sure if dogs could pick up stds...I knew cats could get hiv though...We will have to take our boy to the females house as we have a female who isn't good with other dogs.
