I signed up recently with Odesk hoping to get a part time job. However, what I can do mostly are data entry and bookkeeping only. And the supply of applicants for these jobs are quite high. Just minutes after applying, the vacancy closes immediately and even before applying there are lots of applicants already. So, it's really hard to get a job. Do you know other sites similar to Odesk and is known to have paying providers (employers)?

Write more and more exams in odesk. If you are able to pass more exams then your reputation increases and your profile look more attractive to employers. Freelancer.com is a website similar to odesk. But there you have to pay some money to write examinations.

Actually freelancer.com is free. You can apply for the job with out paying anything. You have to pay fee only for writing exams. It is your decision whether to write a exam or not. Usually exam fees is $5 or $10.

Thanks for informing that freelancer.com isn't free. I just hope the price is quite low and the chance of getting a job is high.

I felt frustrated due to rejections in Odesk. Now that I'm not alone in this case and there's still hope, I still wanna give it a try. Meanwhile, I'm reviewing something that can be an additional skill.

Landing in a job in odesk is quite really hard because the competition there among providers are very tough. I havent land in any odesk job yet in my 3 years membership with the site. You can try out other sites like getafreelancer.com,elance.com and peopleperhour.com. My advice is for you to build a good reputation before bidding in jobs. I am freelance writer. To be able to cope up with other freelance writers like me, I try to build a better reputation of my craft. I submit articles and do other literary works that I can include in my portfolio.

Hey 1mdollarman.!! I'm a member of odesk too. I got one job and that was for data entry got paid and all. That was my first and last. i'm still trying to apply but some just won't accept you especially if you are not a member for too long there. You must also be very presentable when applying so that you will get accepted. You can try freelancer I think it's the same as odesk but as what I said that they usually accept people with experience. Pimping up your profile can help.,

Hi 1Mdollarmom, there are several freelance job sites similar to odesk, they are elance.com, guru.com, ifreelance.com, freelancer.com and many more. But sad to say it's hard to get jobs in all sites because of the competition. I'm also an odesk worker and my tip is for you is to do some skills tests to add to your odesk resume, initially make your pay rate low, and bid even for low paying jobs, this is only at first and only until you get a job and a favorable "feedback" because most employers there are likely to choose someone with odesk experience. But there are some who still accept "newbies" but expect low pay rates too, take advantage of them just to get an odesk experience. I hope this helps. ^_^

I've reached the point of offering rock bottom bids but to no avail. Maybe it's also pure luck.
