Do you ever eat fish in front of your pet fish?

It sounds disgusting doesn't it? But there have been many times when I have opened a can of tune or mackerel and have been eating in front of my pet goldfish. No, I don't actually mean, standing in front of the trunk and eating it there, but my dining room faces our aquarium tank and they like to watch us eat, and I am so sure that they do realise what we're eating and start to get confused, and in turn I start feeling guilty, so I end up trying to hide when I'm eating the fish so that they don't see, my mum just thinks I'm mad and ridiculous to think that... :(

hahahha!1 That's kinda funny! xD Of course I do this.. The dining table is just infront of the aquarium.. Why hide it? They probably don't know it's fish if it's in a can or anything as they have probably never seen the innards of a fish.. They will only know it's fish if the body is of a fish.. :D haaha Funny discussion!! xD Good day and Happy MyLotting!

Thanks for saying it's funny, as I've never actually seen it that way, I was pretty worried that people were going to say it was really disgusting and cruel. We ahve actually had steamed fish once, and the whole fish was cooked all in one go (with head and tail etc) and it was a much larger one (than them anyway) and it was just served ona large plate onto the table...I think they got a bit depressed when they saw as they all seem to lie low on the bottom of the tank, and also hid away from me when I approached them, I told my mum this, and agin, she said I was being silly and mad! :(

Hhaahahh!! Since I live in the Philippines I have fish a lot and we also have this food called "Buwad" It's basically fish dried then fried so it's crispy.. Smells real bad though! But still has the shope of the fish. Everything is eaten.. Head, tail, eyes, bones.. I even tease my fish! hahha They start going near me since it's food anyways.. They don't really care when I bring food that's shaped like fish they start going near since they think I'm going to feed them.. The fish I have are probably idiots? Maybe? Hahhaha..

Fish are actually pretty intelligent, at least I like to think of mine are anyway! I suppose the larger fish do still eat the smaller fish...so with us eating the larger fish for them, we're actually doing them a favour...? ;)

I think goldfishes have a very shortterm memory and hopefully yours does too and would forget what you were having for lunch as soon as you are walking away. I don't think they would understand anyways and your fish is probably fried or cooked somehow and doesn't look like fish. I don't know....I guess I'm just trying to say...your fish wouldn't be mentally scarred.

Goldfishes have a memory of three months, it is not short term : http://nootropics.com/intelligence/smartfish.html If they are smart, when they understand what is fire, it is too late .

I actually find that my goldfish are pretty intelligent. They have learnt to recognise me and respond evertime I approach them. They have learnt to do certain tricks as well :)

lol, haha, mentally scarred, and soon we'll get the goldfish suing us and sending us legal papers for psychological damage and emotional hurt, plus damages for loss of appetite...

How come you don't agree with keeping fish as pets?

Oh, I see, yes, it's can be quite frustration when you can't really physically touch it, but you can still actually 'play' with it - it depends on the fish really, whether they want to play or not, we have one comet fish out of the three which is very active and responds everytime I approach the tank, it will swim around right up to the glass, and will react to my fingers going up and down the tank, and will continuously follow it, it is a very smart and playful fish, it also gets jealous if I give too much attention to the other fish and will swim in front of your point of focus just to make sure that you're looking at it. :)

That is so funny. But I think It is really disgusting to do that or you will really feel bad about urself to do something like that... I would do the same fish I will also hide from my pet fish so that they won't see.

That's... well, funny in a way and disturbing in another way! I've never had pet fishes since I always had many cats, but once a japanese boy invited me out for a date. He invited me at restaurant and we ate fish and then... he brought me to the aquarium. Kind of disturbing, actually. D:

I had a similar experience in Hong Kong, where in the seafood restaurants, they have the large aquariums situated around you and then you can choose whoch swimming fish to order. Then 20 minutes later it would then be served on the table in front of you, I find it difficult to eat it then... :)
