What type of music do you listen to that drives those around you crazy but to you is perfectly acceptable? I like Metal a lot but it drives my folks here at home crazy cause they like mellow sounding stuff.

I just listen to gothic/symphonic metal, sometimes I choose hard rock but irrespective of my my choices they around me wonder how I can enjoy such type of music. I heard them saying that they need music to get relaxed or to get energy. I listen to music not for fun, not for getting calm or in the mood for life. My music makes me alive. It's only emotion and be it pain, enthusiasm, longing or whatever else, it's what man lives and they way such type of music mixes the female and man voices with chorus and the classical sound and the power of guitars and the majestusous sound of keyboards is for me the ideal one to express such emotions at profound level.

I'm glad you think that...I listen to music because it has for several occasions saved me from overwhelming odds. It gave me my confidence back...that's why I love metal because it just gives me energy and it makes me feel alive.

Rock songs. Any rock songs. My mother and other old folks around me hate rock songs. I like listening to rock music but they often get irritated of my music. What they want are oldies, just like those sang by baby sitters.

So funny that y'all should say that everyone you know hates metal. That is all I ever hear at work. I don't mind it, some of it is pretty good. Its like most things, 95%, sound the same, while that 5% completely rocks. For me, I am completely into 50's era post bop Jazz. Most people think it is a snooze fest, but man take a listen to Coltrane on Giant Steps and tell me he is not completely hardcore ( well at least for the time). It is not right that more people don't listen to these fantastic musicians. Oh well, who ever said there was justice (or taste)

Folks here don't even know much about it. They listen to mainstream stuff. Lady Gaga and such so I think I can sympathize that all they will ever hear is noise for my music of choice.

I like song from Thursday and Taking Back Sunday, considered by many as "emo" bands. Most of my co-workers do not like the music I play during office hours even though only few of them can actually hear the sound. I am an adult and I am proud to listen to this genre.

Same type of thing, i listen to a lot of genre of music from rap to rock, rnb and pop, through alternative, reggae up to techno digital music. But whenever i listen to heavy metal rock my folks most of the time gets annoyed with this especially when they hear the shouts and screams. I think its all about the taste for music of people. Much respect and thanks for the interesting topic.
