Hey guys. On Saturday my main computer was hit by a scamware virus called "Smart Security", and I recognized it as a virus that scams you of your money after being infected by the virus. I ran into it 2 times earlier this year, but this time I wasn't so lucky. On Monday I had to send it to the Geek Squad for repairs along with backing up my files, and that costs me a lot of money. Everything I tried failed, including Safe Mode. System Restore didn't work, and I can't even go into Safe Mode because it keeps automatically restarting my computer. It keeps making my computer restart over and over again when I even reach the Windows boot-up logo. So annoying! Not even the Windows Recovery Console could help because it read as a Disk Read Error. I'm sorry to say that I didn't install any firewalls or defensive software on it. IT tricked my computer by making it look like an anti-virus, anti-malware, or anti-spyware program, but it actually corrupted my computer. Now it's costing me a LOT of money, about $230 dollars to back up my files and reinstall windows to the way it came from the factory. A major drain on my wallet. I'm typing this here on my secondary computer, my Nettop that I got last Christmas, my Acer Aspire Revo. Now I feel like strangling whoever made that "Smart Security" scamware virus with my bare hands! Now I have to use multiple firewall protections such as ZoneAlarm, EZFirewall and Windows Firewall, but i'm afraid that it'll slow down or stop my internet connection. Is there a way to make my DSL connection faster while still on a firewall? I don't want to run into the same "Smart Security" virus that ruined my eMachines computer again.

I had a similar virus. It's pretty common though - Anti-virus 2010. It comes up looking like windows security and tells you your system has been breeched and you may have spyware. For some money they offer to "fix" it.Which of course means they not only fix your computer but scam your info as well! I never did try to "pay" anyway. I just wiped my system clean. Luckily I could save my stuff first. The last virus I had though I couldn't do anything. It would block every application. I lost it all and went back to factory resets once again!

I'm not sure about how to go about making your DSL connection faster while on a firewall.. but just would like to add that not another devastating virus.. there are aplenty already. I can understand your frustration; especially when money has to be forked out for repair and such.

Herro DuoMaxwell I know that thank you is not appropriate, however, I appreciate you posting this discussion. I learned about the virus, although I run anti-virus and won't use one I haven't heard of. And the person who responded I'm going to bookmark their blog. Prosperous mylotting
