My 16 year old son wants to earn money before going to 6th form

My 16 year old son is hoping to go to 6th form but in the meantime he is twiddling his fingers. He would like to earn but any part-time jobs are chocca block with applicants. The successful ones seem to get the job through relatives/friends working there already, it is very depressing for him. Does anyone have any ideas?

if you are in the uk there are free papers delivered for his age to work at for a small wage

This might be an option, although we have a young lad doing the round at the moment, I could always ask when he finishes, thanks
