As everyone has told you small breed dogs are the best but only you will know the right breed for you. I recommend going to the site puppyfind.com to see the grooming, exercise and temperments of all registered breeds before trying to pick the right dog for yourself. This site also has some really cute puppies that are available for sale. I have purchased to papillions through there and they are both great. Just make sure you do your research, call the breeder and ask a ton of questions before you make any decisions on the right dog for you.

For apartment friendly breeds, you can have chihuahua, shih tzu or poodle. Mini pinscher is also good, same with maltese. Chihuahua is best because it has a mini structure. Shih tzu on one hand is fine, but the disadvantage is that it is quite noisy especially the female breed. Though they are playful and loves to wander. Poodle is good too.

Well, I would suggest a small one, and also one that does not need a lot of stimulation, such as running and being in an outdoor environment for most of the day. There are several breeds that fit this description though. There is not just one dog that is suitable for people living in apartments I think, but stay clear of very big dogs and dogs that are breeded for hunting and similar.

On the show Dogs 101 I discovered a designer cross breed called a Cavachon which is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles and a Bichon Frise. Not only are these dogs adorable but they are good for allergy sufferers, are loyal and friendly, make good family pets and do well in smaller indoor spaces.
