Yes, the style or theme of a wedding should definitely be an expression of the bride and groom, their likes, interests, etc. For instance, when my daughter got married, they decided on simply going traditional and creating their theme around colors. They had an outdoor wedding with a catered buffet and a live band. And although there were four bridesmaids, four groomsmen, ring bearer and flower girl with more than 135 guests, it was still a very simple, traditional, low budget wedding with a lot of the family members helping. The venue was the family's homestead with a cabin and three covered pavilions. The groom's cousin owned the catering service=discount; the best man's father had the band=discount; we got more than 75% of everything online at a deep discounts, including a $1000 Alfred Angelo wedding dress for $235! And she was able to get the bridesmaids dresses for $29 each. The favors were simple but attractive and low cost and probably the most expensive item out of everything was the cake! But this all expressed their idea of simplicity and tradition. When my husband and I got married, we eloped but I did hire a bagpipe player for him as my surprise gift to him. We then decided on a larger somewhat traditional ceremony for our vow renewal so all the family could be there. The favors were all handmade and the venue was a local fire company social hall. And since the bagpiper wasn't available, we bought a CD of bagpipe music for the DJ to play. When my son got married, they decided on a local bed & breakfast and a simple but beautiful and romantic outdoor ceremony followed by light snacks inside instead of a full reception and menu. My daughter-in-law talks about "redoing" it at a later time to include a DJ and dancing though. LOL So, the location, the venue, the attendants, the favors, the theme, the entire planning all depends not only on the personalities of the couple, but on their budget as well.
