cheating in cinemas

United States

I have been to movie cinemas in the US. What bothers me is that there is only one person checking the ticket and that is by the main entrance. That means, when you get into the cinema, you can go from one movie house to the other and watch all the movies shown in there since nobody checks tickets by the cinema doors. I have herd stories from friends saying they went to a movie marathon wherein they watched all the movies in that particular cinema. Do you think there should be more personnel in the cinema so this rampant cheating could be avoided? Have you ever paid for a single ticket and watched all the movies?

I use to work at a movie theater about 2 years ago. Since then I really don't think its that serious to see more than one movie. Who is it hurting? I'm sure it this "rampant cheating" do not happen as much as you think. I mean to sit in a movie for 2 hours is enough for some people. But I can honestly say I have watched more than one movie at theater, but I was working there then, and it was free anyway. Good benefits working at a theater!!

Wow! That's nice if that's true. Maybe tickets are expensive and really intended to see all of the movies if the customer wishes to.

It costs 7 bucks for the regular film and 10 bucks for 3D.

Hi, nympha687. I know that this is quite easy to be done and gotten away with. I have never tried this. This is totally wrong. There should be someone that is waiting at each door, every time that someone has finished watching a movie. It is wrong to watch movie after movie without paying for it.

Never. It's a matter of personal integrity, and most people have none. If a girl told me she would like to hop from movie to movie without paying for it, I wouldn't date that kind of girl.

Actually in my case it do happens when we watch movies before the last full show and when we went out the whole mall lights are closed and no one is already guarding the door to the next cinema meaning you can watch the other movies with out being caught. I worked at the mall so I raised this concerned to the management because I know that others might noticed this too and might take advantage of it but their response is that they already informed the managers of the cinema and will be able to take note of this matter but it's almost a year now and it seems that there is nothing change at all.

I think that they should have more people with tickets. As for the second question, I might have accidently *cough cough* walked into another movie when I was leaving. But only ONCE!

It is a matter of trust. There aren't that many personnel walking around and checking for tickets because people are trusted not to do this kind of thing and if it did happen, it won't do much harm. Spending on the extra staff won't justify the cost. Don't forget, every person hired are paid not by the boss but by the people who buy tickets.

I've actually thought about that myself. The theater I go to has 16 screens, with movies playing all day long, and one person who takes tickets. I do see other employees running around, butI'm not sure what their jobs are. In fact, the movies play even if no one is in the theater, so what does it matter if they run to an empty theater or run to someone who snuck in? I've never done it...2 hours is long enough for me, but I'm sure it happens all the time.

That's not called cheating, it's called "scoring." Movie tickets are way overpriced anyways.

That cant happen in the Philippines. Because each movie theater have their own doorway and each door have a ticket girl who check for movie goers tickets. Plus inside the cinema there are guards or ushers that first check the costumers tickets and then help them get seated. For cheaper cinemas they atleast have 1 ticket girl in every movie theater. And most cinemas here only allow 1 film showing for each ticket. So after the movie they clean up the movie theater and prepare for the next batch of people coming in.
