Is it okay to use the internet in your office for non work related things?

I use a computer all day at work, and of course I also use the internet for work since I work in the logistics industry, I need to research cities all over the world. I try not to let other people see me looking at none work related stuff, even though I am. The other staff are doing it too, they just quickly switch over the screen when somebody is close. Are you weary about internet usage at work? or is it a case of - as long as I'm getting my work done?

Youv'e got a point there muteki. You have finish your work first before getting to another stuff for extra earnings. It also depends in the company your'e working coz others have this thing of monitoring the employee's computer usage. If your company doesn't have this surveillance thing then its your own will if you wanted to go beyond your work and do other online job, just as long as your other work won't get on your way with the work the company is paying for you. :)

Understood. My managers know I am always getting my work done. I'm in the office an hour before the official start time, to get things done. But I still quickly switch my screen over when someone comes by, just in case.

nice strategy.. But it also means that your'e risking your work coz chances are you might get caught. Unless there's no specific guidelines in your company that is against with what your'e doing.

Well, using office internet for non-work related stuff is not good. It has a risk to lose your job if you don't have permission to do that. If you think that you will not get caught then you can continue. But beware of not opening some risky content like adult website or like that. I am telling because I done the same as you are doing now, but unfortunately I got caught and made a bad impression on my boss. The simple alternative is take internet connection at home and use it as you want when you are at home and enjoy.. Thanks.

I would actualy prefer to spend more time with my family than be on the internet in the evenings. I suppose I should time things better. e.g. internet before and after work and breaks etc. I don't think anybodt is really watching anyway.
