When I was a kid, I thought that the word "professional" means a person who is an expert to his role or profession but right now that I am working in a big corporation, I realize that my definition of the word was wrong. Being professional means that you can handle your self in times of great pressure. It means holding your temper even though you have the right to get angry. It means being nice to someone even though its obvious that he/she is not nice to you. You have to smile even your boss is disparaging your dignity. Sadly, that's what professional in reality really means.

Hello! A professional does not only mean a person who is an expert in his chosen career or field of endeavor but he is someone who follows strict ethical principles and displays high moral values at work that somehow validates his personal integrity and regards work decency as his best asset wherever it takes him. Therefore, however difficult the situation is, a professional should maintain an unquestionable character no matter how bad his colleagues are, even if people aren't fair, or the boss is a monster. Truly sad that there are only a very few professionals who upholds "real professionalism" in the workplace. Reading the way you described a professional is already a triumph in itself. Kudos to you Mr. Professional, you've a long way to go. Who knows, your boss will one day be your subordinate. I happens you know. Good luck!

Your former definition of Professional is correct .. in the Latter, you were describing being professional. Both terminologies are very different from each other..many Professionals does not act as one.

How can you say that they are VERY different from each other? You can rephrase the definition by yourself in order to relate the two. The former will remain the same as "a professional is a person who is an expert..." You may change the latter to "a professional is a person that can handle himself in times of great pressure..." So they are not different.
