Is owning a down pillow the same as having a fur coat in your closet?

I'm wondering, are products filled with down, like pillows, comforters, coats eve, made in a more humane way? I'm sure most of us know how fur is collected, and how much pain and suffering animals like rabbits, foxes, even cats and dogs have to go through when they are skinned alive. Is down "harvested" in a more merciful manner? Or is it the same as skinning a mammal? Please share your thoughts on this. Thank you!
