Not necessarily true, If the link takes the user to a site which runs a java applet this could easily install a Trojan, or Keylogger on the users computer which if not removed or picked up by Anti-Virus would eventually lead to sensitive user information being stolen passwords, banking details etc Also if the link takes the user to a site which steals current cookies from the users browser and relays them to a third party these cookies could easily be injected to steal the user session and steal sensitive information
