Hi, reducing carbohydrates probably helps, and you can take more protein-based food to counter the hunger. Actually when you first start reducing your portion, you will feel hungry, but after a while, when your body got adjusted, you will find that the smaller portion is also sufficient. I'm speaking from experience, not from dieting but when I turned vegetarian. I always order extra rice because the vegetables get digested fast, later, I'm used to having smaller portions and now I'm fine.

Hi bluemoonpavilion, thank you for the sharing but i would like to ask something. Since you're a vegetarian is it easier to lose weight and other than meat what other food do you avoid?

I have lost about 4 kg since turning vegetarian but that was reduced gradually over a period of 1 year. After that I have remained constant for about 8 years. Besides vegetables and fruits, I take all dairy products, eggs, milk, butter and cheese. I do not eat meat or seafood. I think I am a bit on the skinny side and I have consulted some people on my nutrition. I actually need to build up my muscles and increase my intake of protein. They advised plant protein like beancurd, soyabean, grains and nuts. I would need to tweak my daily diet a bit. But overall, my health has been good. I find that I do not fall sick easily and my body feels very light. If you are interested in knowing more, please pm me, I can share with you my experiences. Cheers!

I´m also trying to lose weight. I´m eating more veggies and take a soup (broth type) to feel less hunger. Whole grains bread is a lot more filling than normal bread. I suppose you can eat a bit of that to curb your apetite ( with the broth, no butter). Take care!

How about eating less rice. but whole grain type? That would help, it´´s more nutritious and there are many good recipes for it online.

I seldom eat white bread and sadly they don't sell whole grains bread here. I tried replacing rice with oat for a few weeks and it kind of work but i got tried eating because i had no other variation. now i try not to take dinner...do you think that's ok? My friends said that is the best way to stop gaining weight.

Hi, Since you like to cook, then you can cook alot of dishes for your healthy diet. First, eat more vegetables which helps to lose weight in a way. From my point of view, you still can eat rice, but reduced the quantity of rice you are consuming and eat more vegetable. As for meat, you still can have it once awhile. Try to avoid fried foods and also junk foods. Drink plenty of water, and not to forget to include fruits into your diet menu. For breakfast, you can have something light like sandwiches with fruit juice/milk. For lunch , you can have spaghetti or pasta (have to control the portion that you eat). For dinner, let's back to healthy menu : 1 vegetable with fish and soup, eat with steam rice. Once a while, you can have fried noodle. Or you can cook porridge with different version. Happy weekend !!

Hi curiousplay54 (is it fushigi yuugi?) I also love rice, and it is inevitable for me not to have it at mealtime. Try eating brown rice. They're a bit more expensive than a normal rice but they're good for the health and is better for the digestion and metabolism. Mix one fourth of brown rice with three fourth white rice when cooking it.

Yes, it looks sort of red and when you cook it, it turns brownish. There are tons of those and it looks like this www.health.food-recipe-cooking.com/brown-rice-benefits-health-0-b.jpg (umm, my laptop's number 'one' broke so just place it after 0 between health and b). Brown rice should also be soaked before cooking for about thirty minute. It has a bran layer that's why it looks brown. ^_^ I also love fushigi yuugi, one of my favorite anime.
